Conker and Diddy

The monkey himself was drained. The flying and the falling took its toll on him, but the class was nothing less of a newly needed thrill. He screwed up a few times, surely, but something- or rather, someONE had caught his attention in the class, taking a whack at Mr. Sable a while before he did.

He was short in breath and in need of a shower back at his dorm, but when Diddy exited that stadium, that someone caught his attention again.

It really could have been anybody, since this was a school far, far away from any place he's lived or hung out, and seriously, what are the odds?

But the red squirrely fur with the beaming bright blue eyes? Yeah, he looks a little older and scruffier than he remembered, but that surely had to be Conker!

Surely he had to make sure of this!

The young chimp dusted off his slightly-oversized gym attire, fixed his cap, and ran up to the squirrel with what little energy he had left for the moment.

Conker sighed and started walking back towards his dorm building, looking forward to taking a relaxing nap, and deciding to put any thoughts of old friends into the back of his mind.
"Whoever it was, I guess it really doesn't matter. I'll just go back to my dorm and...."
Conker trailed off, seeing the tired monkey running at from a distance.
"...Diddy?!"
There was certainly no mistaking him this time.

His voice surely didn't sound like what he remembered, but what other blue-eyed red squirrel would remember his name?

"Conker!" he called out, still running. What a reunion this was going to be!

Diddy stopped in front of him, smiling the best he could while panting his lungs out and pulling his hat off to fan his face. "Hey there, buddy!"

Conker became instantly self conscious when realizing how much Diddy was the same. Obviously he was older, and had grown accordingly, but he could still see the bright nature he had shared when they knew each other.
Conker...he was...not like that anymore.
He hoped he wouldn't embarrass himself in front of his old friend, and grinned wide.
"I...I can't believe it. It sure has been a long time, Diddy! I didn't even know you were going to this school!"

It wasn't long at all before Diddy was breathing and standing normally again. This was fantastic! He almost felt ready to cry but that wasn't very manly of him so he did his best not to.

"Meh! Cranky got rid of me by sending me here!" he wasn't even peeved by saying that. "I would have never guessed YOU would be here! How's it been?" The monkey pounced the squirrel for a quick glomp.

Conker smiled wide, and hugged his friend back. He had always got along great with Diddy, and if he was to meet any of his friends from those days again, he certainly would have chosen Diddy over the other animals he associated with.
"Things have been...OK. It's really crazy to see you again!"
He couldn't think of much else to say.
"How's the girlfriend?"
While making small talk, he suddenly remembered the tournament. Hmm.

Diddy let go. He was just so thrilled to see Conker again. There was recently a reunion at Timber Island with his racing buddies, but Conker nor Banjo were no-shows, but they were two of the oldest from the bunch and the chimp figured they were all grown up and had their own lives to tend to.

But here he was, in the flesh! and fur!

Diddy plopped his hat back over his head. "Dixie and I are still going strong after all these years! She's such a sweetie!" He blushed. "But now her little sister's been hitting on me... and it's kinda wierd!"
He paused.... tried to change back to the previous subject.
"But yeah! I'm still baffled that I'M even here! I'm totally not accustomed to city life and everything is so BIG and SOPHISTICATED! Look at me! I'm wearing PANTS on a daily basis! Can you imagine that

"I've been here for about 3 years now, I wasn't here freshman year. I don't know any of the freshman really, which is probably why I didn't know you were here! You're a freshman, right?"
Conker grinned at Diddy's reference to wearing pants.
"I don't think I wore pants when I knew you before either."

"Freshman indeedy! But this is a huge school and I'm always running around a lot!" Diddy chuckled, holding a hand to the back of his head.

He twirled around at the discussion of pants. "You KNOW this world is advancing when EVERYONE starts to wear pants! I think the wierdest part is having to choose between three kinds of underpants! I have at least one of each and I still don't know which I'm most comfortable in!

Conker giggled at Diddy. It was so great to see him again...
"So...what are you doing for the festival?" He took a breath. "And the tournament?"

"I don't know, actually," the monkey scratched his head. "I never really looked into any of it, but I guess any tournament's a good one! What about you?"

"Well, I'm certainly not going to participate in the festival, I've never been one for that kind of stuff I suppose. But as for the tournament."
Conker coughed.
"I signed up. The only thing is, I don't have a partner."
Conker made sure to put extra emphasis on those words, to come out and ask his friend who he had only just been reunited with just seemed too...rude.

"NOW YOU DO," he chimmed immediately,now more than excited to do something with his old buddy again. "Let's go sign me up now!"

That...that had gone easier than Conker thought it would have.
"A-Alright, lets go find Mr. Minch and do that right now!"
The two friends walked off toward the classroom buildings.
