Red is sitting at the PokeCenter, his knuckles turning white from grasping his mobile phone in his hand. His face was keeping its composure for now, but he was tense - so very tense. What had Marie done? What was going on?

And right next to him sat a very, VERY anxious looking Sonny Moe. A crumpled dorito packet in one hand - empty and being squeezed repeatedly as they waited for any news of Marie being awake or even OK.

".....is it going to be like last year?" Sonny asked Red quietly, remembering that horrible couple of months that Sasha and Vinnie spent recouperating and everyone being completely miserable. Of course, he wasn't sure how much of that series of events Red even remembered, being his memory was apparently hazy. Really, all he wanted was a little assurance that things were going to be better this time. That Marie was OK, and that things were going to get back to normal quickly.

Red couldn't say anything. Not for any want of saying anything but he couldn't think of what to say. He didn't want to raise their hopes up but at the same time he was agreeing with his Pikachu - Marie was a tough little thing and he believed that he would be alright but still.

This situation was eating him from the inside out. All he could do was put a hand on Sonny's shoulder and grasp it tightly.

At some point, a little later in the morning, one of the nurses told the team it was alright to visit. She ushered them into the short hallway, and directed them towards Marie's room.

Marie was still unconscious at the time. The nurses had wrapped a gauze bandage around his head, where he had bumped himself when his head had hit the pavement earlier. The ends of his hair had been singed slightly, but it had been cut away, leaving him with a shorter, messier haircut. Other than that, the boy didn't appear too worse for wear...

Sonny stood at the end of the bed, letting the others get in closer. He had no details on what had happened beyond Marie was in a fight and so he was searching the sleeping form for anything majorly wrong - which there didn't look to be except he wasn't awake.

....hopefully that wasn't going to be permanent.

Red still said nothing, but he quickly moved to be at the side of the bed. His expression revealed nothing of his emotional state but Marie was alive, which was always a relief. Thank Arceus for Pokemon Centers and thank Bulba and Green for their swift response. He'd have to thank them properly sometime.

But now, Marie.

"..."

Deep breath. Time to wait until he entered the conscious world of his own accord.

Chika, on the other hand, stood far away from the bed, it was hard for to accept what laid in front of her eyes. Still yes, it was a good thing that Marie was still alive in the first place, but still...

"... fucking bastards." The Pikachu silently muttered.

"He'll be okay," Sasha told Chika, patting her head. The Charizard's usual cheerfulness was decidedly numb, but she did her best to at least keep the team's spirits up a bit. "Let's worry about him first and figure out what happened later."

Red exhaled. A long, low breath that seemed to echo everything he was feeling. Frustration, fatigue, exasperation, worry and a certain tenacity. Then he broke his silence.

"Marie? Can you hear me?"

Sonny leaned in just a little bit. If ANYTHING could wake Marie up, it was Red's voice. His hands were behind his back, and all his fingers were crossed.

Indeed.

In his weird half-uconscious half-asleep state, Marie heard his teammates talking. They sounded distant, as if they were in another room. Their talking slowly began to stir the young Squirtle. In response to his trainer, Marie let out an uncharacteristically low-pitched gurgle. His eyes opened ever-so-slightly and he looked for his trainer.

He felt pretty embarrassed, seeing his teammates looking back at him as his eyes glanced over the room.

"....oh. Phew."

It wasn't much to say, but the releif it conveyed was probably palpable. Seeing him wake up was reassuring and it felt like a weight had been lifted from Sonny's shoulders. However, he stayed where he was, sure that the others would prefer to get in and coddle him first.
