Corpses were dumped in the woods without care.
And Knuckles the Echidna hoped for the next killing, he'd be there.
....to stop it, of course.
Terrible parodies of Christmas carols aside, Knuckles was stalking the city rooftops, glowering darkly at all the festive wreathes and hanging tinsel. So far, this Holiday season and the Last were NOT times of celebration for him and he was starting to associate the happily jingling music and multicolored lights below with violence and depravity. What was it about Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward Men that brought out the Bad in some people?
Still. He couldn't let himself get sidetracked. His ears did their best to filter out the sounds of his footfalls, the honking of horns and revving of engines, the music coming from stores and the general chatter of late-night shoppers and partygoers. He was listening for screams, for yelling, for anything that suggested he ought to be there.
....it will have to be a noise made by the victim. Mac said the Killer was entirely silent the whole time. Didn't make a sound even during the fight. Huh... silent...
Silent Night was playing in the store on top of which he stood. He could hear it as the door opened and a family walked out, loaded down with shopping bags. He watched them walk to their car and drive off, glad to see them reach relative safety.
This is probably not gonna be the kind of place he'd strike anyway.... too loud. Too brightly lit. Too many potential witnesses. Gotta head further out.... the places it ain't as nice and sparkly.
He leapt from the roof, spreading his dreadlocks and sliding silently through the air away from the main street with it's bright lamps and even brighter store fronts. He was headed for a seedier part of town. Hopefully he could find something more substantial to go on there. And maybe a cup of coffee.

Knuckles wasn't the only one in the air that night. Silver, while he had not gotten to visit Mac for any clues, was going through all the places he could think of to see if he could run into the culprit. While Blaze had taken the ground, Silver decided to take the sky. Who knows, with so many different kinds of creatures at this place, the criminal may have wings!
That was when he glimpsed a sight of someone jumping off a roof. Silver immediately changed his direction to follow after the other.
"Hey!"

Knuckles banked his body to circle back around and see who was calling him. The familiar green-blue glow was a dead giveaway and he dropped lightly to the nearest rooftop, being it was easier to talk while standing still.
He raised his glove in a wave. It looked as though Silver really WAS patrolling the city as he'd said over the network. Good.
"Yo!"

"Out on patrol as well?" He asked as he got close enough.

"You too, I see. Find anything? I've got nothin' on my end so far."

Seeing Silver suddenly take off on his own gave Blaze enough reason to try and follow. She leaped between buildings, running along a wall to jump to a fire escape, and finally one more leap, complete with a mid-air flip, and land near the pair. "Knuckles," she greeted simply.

"No, nothing." Silver replied to Knuckles before looking over at Blaze who had just regrouped. "You know him?"
Come to think of it, this was probably the first time the three had met up in person like this.

"We're friends." Knuckles replied for her. "We've known each other a while and... uhh... I was also friends with a previous Her who was at school here, dating one of my best pals, Bark."
Because that was bound to come up at some point ANYWAY - best to get it aired now.
"Sorry you guys are having crummy luck too." He carried on. "Even watching things from the air isn't turning up much of anything... though... the only things I know about the guy are hard to see visually anyhow. Well. Except that he IS a guy."

"Where have you tried?" Blaze asked, changing the subject.

Dated... He decided he was going to leave it at that; finding the murderer was more important at the moment, anyways.
"...Any other clues you know of?" He asked after Blaze, his hand on his chin.

Knuckles dropped to one knee, ungloving one hand and drawing a quick map of the main streets he'd covered in the light dusting of snow.
"....went past the malls here and here, very busy. Lots of foot traffic. Nothing unusual. Took to the air after this department store and went further west."
He looked back to Silver. "As for what I know... not much. I questioned Mac but the guy wasn't in much of a state to tell me a great deal. Only tips that were real solid - Guy didn't say ANYTHING during their fight. Not one word or yell or anything. Secondly - guy is skilled with a sword and keeping himself moving. Mac didn't get a good look at him, even though they were close up. Was too busy tryin' to keep himself alive."

...It didn't look nice.
"Yeah, having tons of swords on their back would be noticeable..." He agreed.
