Medical Jargon makes a Sad Mac )
He decided to wait until he figured the victim would be in better condition, and he even brought some flowers so he wouldn't come off as a completely heartless person only visiting to get information. Well, okay, that was why Phoenix was visiting, but he still felt terrible for the poor guy.
So, when he entered Mac's room, he smiled a bit, holding the flowers. "Hey there," he greeted, "I don't know if you know me, but I'm Mr. Wright, the political science teacher at Smash Academy. I wanted to see how you were doing."

"...Eh?" Mac said, in shock. He didn't know this man, but the gesture was nice. Mac was no jerk at all. "Oh, hey. N-nice to meetcha...I'm guessin' you know my name by now, hahaha..."
Obviously he came because Phoenix heard he was in here. He laughed but out of sheer lightheartedness...not really out of "joyous laughter".
"...I'm gettin' better, I guess."

"I heard about you on the news and from some of my students," he said, "And... Well, it's terrible what happened to you."
Of course it was terrible. He felt awful seeing the poor kid lying in the hospital in that condition, and he wasn't sure how to go about asking him for the details of his attack. He didn't want to make the student relive the attack or come off as a cold, unfeeling investigator, but at the same time, it was important. If this cruel attacker was going to be brought to justice, Phoenix had to know the details.

"Well..." Mac simply said, very bluntly too. "I'm alive, right? And I'm gonna be okay. So...it's okay, really."
Physically okay. Emotionally not. But he didn't want to worry a kind stranger who was probably here to ask questions. The cops did. And Mac assumed if he was seeing people he didn't know...he really assumed they wanted answers really.
"I guess you're here to know what happened, huh?"
Reply
"Yes..." he said slowly. "I need to know what happened so that I can bring the person who did this to you to justice. I'm a..."
He was about to say that he was a defense attorney and pull out his badge, but those days were over. He couldn't lie to this boy and say that he was an attorney when he really wasn't, so what was he going to say? That he was just some random stranger looking for information?
"I've solved many difficult cases like this in the past. So if you can, please tell me everything you can remember about that night."
((OOC: Is it okay if Phoenix uses his magatama on Mac?))

So...was he a cop? Detective? Huh. But if it's another party, it's more people who can help catch this psycho. Mac wanted that more than anything else. He remembers the scene...but not the man. Must have been in the moment at that time.
"If it means you can help, sure thing. Anythin' I could do, I will."
He hated everything about the story but...yeah. He took a breath. Time to tell this story again which he told over 9000 times. He hated pity, hated it.
Are you ready, Wright?
Reply
"Yes, I do want to help. I want to help catch the person who did this to you," he said with the utmost sincerity.
He did feel bad, as Mac had probably told the cops and his friends the story, but if Phoenix was going to help, he had to hear it as well. He had Maya's magatama on him, ready to catch any lies or hidden truths in Mac's story. So, getting out a notepad, he looked at Mac with wide eyes, ready to listen.

"It was evenin'...I was walkin' back to the school when I saw some guy comin' toward me. He..."
Swallow. The images were now coming back and his insides started to twist.
"He was covered in blood and he carried a sword with 'im. He didn't say a word to me, he just walked toward me like a crazy psycho killer would. The kind that needs to be locked up somewhere and never get out..."
Pause.
"Anyway, almost right away he tried bring me down. He didn't look like he thought about it twice either."

He jotted down a few notes, such as the killer being covered in blood and carrying a sword.
"Mac... Can you remember anything else?"
Reply
"Yeah...I think I tried to ask him why he was doin' what he was doin'. Cuz well...I woulda defended myself if he started attacking, but I didn't wanna kill 'im or nothin'."
He looked blank, as if he was serious. "I ain't no killer. Boxers don't fight rough with people outside the ring unless they gotta. I've had to do that before. But I really didn't know what I did to make 'im wanna, y'know...I didn't know the guy at all."
Anyway.
"We fought for a bit and well..."
He looked around the room, as if mentioning the results of that fight blatantly.
"He used a sword. He was good with it. He knew how to kill people with it. And like I said, he didn't even flinch when he started attackin'...He's dangerous."

He gathered that the killer had used his sword on Mac, not only from the way he talked, but from the level of his injuries. It sounded like this killer was a soulless sociopath, having absolutely no guilt or flinching or anything upon attacking an innocent man. It was terrible.
"I see..." he said, taking a gulp of nervousness. He really hated asking for more details on the attacker, but he had to.
"Do you... Do you remember what he looked like?"
Reply
"I...I know he was a guy, and he was tall but not some huge guy at all."
He looked down.
"I don't remember exactly what he looked like..."
Reply
"It's okay," Phoenix assured him, "If you can't remember, don't worry."
He jotted down the scarce details Mac was able to give on the attacker, but it really wasn't much. The poor guy must have blocked it from his memory, and Phoenix really didn't want to dredge up anything if it was traumatic enough for his psyche to block it.

No, he was insisting he should worry. He feels like crap about this, will you listen Phoenix? Because it seemed like you were the only guy who he didn't know that questioned him that seemed to give a damn about how he felt.
"...I ain't no help, am I? I shoulda stopped him...I was..."
Scared. He had never been in a situation like this. Killing was...not in his mind ever.

"No, Mac, it's okay. You did all you could," he assured him. "And you are a big help to me."
Even if he was a boxer, he was probably taken off-guard, Phoenix assumed, and a boxer against a cold-blooded swordsman is not a very even match. Poor Mac. Phoenix's resolve to catch this killer was even higher now after witnessing the condition of this guy. He had to find the man who did this.
