Cyrus was waiting, having flown over with Honchkrow. He knew that Surge was a type specialist, Electric, and that his own team had little to counter that. Little but experience, anyway, as he'd trained extensively against his weaknesses.
But there was still raw power to contend with. Oh well, it wasn't as if anything would be proven aside from pokémon strength.
So he waited at the end of the field, staring at his opponent despite the darkness preventing a clear view.
Ah, there he was. Surge nodded at Cyrus, a swift and somewhat formal action. Approaching the other man, he asked, "So, how do you want to do this? Six on six? Three on three? I don't really have any preferences."
Surge wasn't about to waste any words on Cyrus. He had already tried that before and failed. Now, he was in strict lieutenant mode. This was a serious battle and he was going to blow off some steam by kicking Cyrus' ass.
"Three on three will suffice. Items and switching permitted, if you will. I believe those are the customary rules in battling gym leaders." That stare lost its potency, but Cyrus persisted. He put a hand on his first pokéball, waiting for Surge to begin.
"Sure, that works for me," Surge nodded. Grabbing one of his Pokeballs, he decided to go first. He threw the ball into the air, watching it open and release his first Pokemon, before catching the ball again.
