This ability cannot be taken lightly. To reset a world, to build anew...no, I cannot be distracted. This heart of mine...I must ignore its pull and push. I must ignore her. She has found that other and so they have chosen. He is, I suppose, acceptable, although she must be made human for that new world. I must learn all there is. I must contain all that knowledge, all that is necessary, or else risk losing all. The constants, the balances...Everything that is to be known must be within me...

[Reset the world...? Now there's something familiar to him. That nagging little worry in the back of his mind persists: is this someone else, or is this some sort of manifestation of his subconscious? Normally, he would be much more shy about letting people know he'd been inside their heads, but the notion that this really might just be Lucas talking to himself makes him a little bolder.]

...What is it you're trying to fix?

[Outside where he'd been sitting, observing the world around him, Cyrus sat up. Someone was talking inside his head, a voice not his own. Someone was...spying on him...]

Who are you? I give my thoughts to nobody but myself.

Oh, s-sorry! I didn't mean to scare you. I just... well, you sounded kind of troubled. I kinda reset the world once before, so I thought maybe I could help you figure out what you're wishing for.

[This person had...reset the world? That was impossible. Only Arceus had that kind of power, and this clearly was not the Original One.]

...Tell me more. Tell me what motivated you. Tell me what drove your hand.

In a lot of ways, I guess I didn't have a choice. I just... wanted to protect all living things. The Dragon would either heal or destroy the world, depending on the heart of the person who woke it up, and if I didn't do it, then... somebody with no heart at all was gonna.

...That's... kind of why the stuff you were thinking worried me. If you're gonna reset the world, how do you know what's in your heart if you're ignoring it? What is it you're wishing for?

[It was illogical to proceed, to trust this person. But he hadn't made a secret of his goals.]

To create a world without strife. Where no one will suffer. I ignore my heart because it is a distraction, pulled about by emotion.

If you're trying to protect people from hurting, then you must be a good person. It's a little funny, though... what you think is a distraction is the same thing I think got me that far. I wonder which one of us is right.

...If you don't mind me asking, what's it's saying that's so distracting?

[A...good person. Yes, this person understood. There was still that faint glimmer, that a complete stranger could comprehend that this was for the betterment of the world, for the good of everybody. But even that had limits.]

I do not expect you to understand...Most are hesitant to hear of the destructive power that emotions carry, no matter how consumed they are by them.

...Try me, mister.

[Definitely a mister, he could tell that much. ...Was beginning to worry about exactly who this was. But... there's no reason to shy away from talking, right? It's not often a person opens up like this.]

I've seen the sort of miracles feelings can make happen... but I've seen the ugly things they do, too.

[It certainly wasn't often that Cyrus opened up at all, but he felt he could trust this person.

...felt. That was the entire problem.]

Miracles. Heh...there isn't a single miracle out there. But emotions distract, they seperate, they villify. A world without them will be logical and peaceful...

There are miracles. I know there are. We're just going to have to disagree about that.

Feelings... I don't know if it's fair to call them good or evil in and of themselves. It's up to us whether we make them into a shield or a sword, don't you think?

Because I was lonely, I learned the people around me are what make me strong. There was another boy, though... because he was lonely, he tore my world to pieces. ...Do you want to know what happened to him, mister?

And yet to form a shield means that we must be shielded from something. That there exist forces that would threaten us. I will rid us of those threats entirely. There will be no loneliness, no pain of loss.

It's a nice thought, but... I guess what I'm trying to say is that even if those bad feelings hurt, they still give us something that we can use to become stronger. Would you take happiness away, too?

will_be_god October 19 2011, 02:54:50 UTC
Absolutely. We cannot rely on those chemical reactions. We must be logical, rational. We cannot hide away from the world.

...what happened to the other?

[Ah. He knows who he's talking to now. A hint of some vague sort of sadness seeps into his words; it's not so easy to hide emotions when you're talking mind-to-mind, and Lucas has always worn his heart on his sleeve anyway.]

He tried to waken the Dragon too. He wanted to change it into his own, perfect world. In... in a way, I guess he succeeded. Nobody can hurt him anymore, but... nobody can reach him, either. He's safe from all the painful things in the flawed world out here, but... don't you think living like that is a little bit sad?
