For whatever reason, Ai poked her purple head in the weight room. She'd been lured in by the sound of music. And she was very happy to find someone in there! A very large, blue-haired man.

Over the sounds of WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY PLAYING and grunting and sweat (wait sweat doesn't make a sound) Max heard a little girl's voice.

He turned and looked at the doorway. There was a girl with purple hair and a leaf by her ear. Oh. Oh Max knew what this was. This was one of those pickymen. Girls. Pickymen girl.

"Hey," said Max from across the weight room. He waved muscularly.

"Right now?" Max asked, looking at the weights he had set up, "I'm gonna start doin' bicep curls."

He was about to start blasting some curls just like that one picture of Marie with a barbell and what looked like a metric assload of weights on both ends.

Ai walked over to inspect. She'd never heard of bicep curls before. Max seemed to be doing them fairly effortlessly.

"Is it fun? Can I try?" she asked.

"Well, if you wanna learn I guess I can show you," Max said between sets, "Are you, uh, one of them pikymen girls? The leaf in your hair." Here he would have gestured but his hands were rather full. He just ended up nodding his head in her direction to make up for it.

"Yes!" Ai replied. "I'm a Pikmin girl!"

She idly touched the little leaf Max had referenced, feeling a little self-conscious about it. However, she reminded herself that Max had never seen her without the leaf. That made her feel a little better.

"And I do want you to show me how to do bicep curls, please."

"There used to be another pikymen girl with purple hair who came down here to exercise sometimes," said Max. "What's your name? I'm Max."

Max carefully set the weights down on the floor. "Follow me over to the dumbbells. You know how much weight you can lift?" he asked as he walked over to the many weights sitting in their respective holders.

"Oh. My name is Ai, Max!" the little Pikmin girl replied.

She followed Max. There were so many things in the room she had never seen before. What did they do!? What were they for? She was distracted for a moment. Finally, she brought her attention to the weights Max was asking about.

"I don't know! I can carry things heavier more than most of my friends!"

"Yeah, the other purple pikymen girl could do that, too," said Max.

He pointed to the 50 pound dumbbells. "Just. Just see if you can pick that up with one hand."

Little girls lifting way too much weight for little girls. Pikymen girls, you confuse Max.

"That's what Purple Pikmin do," Ai confirmed, nodding.

She grabbed the dumbbell Max had referenced too. She picked it up with two hands, but switched to one after getting a feel for the weight. She lifted it over her head with ease.

"Now what?"

"That was just a test. 'Cause I thought that'd be the case with you. Alright, this is what we're gonna do with you. First, you put that back where you got it, then I'm gonna take one of Andy's smaller adjustable weights and we're gonna move it up 50 pounds at a time until we find somethin' you can't lift so easy."

Max had moved over to a stand beside the regular dumbbell stand, where there were some crazy technological looking dumbbells. There was a giant pair marked "Max" and then there were smaller sets. Max went for one of the smaller. He turned a dial to "100" and picked the weight up and curled it a couple of times, then set it down on the ground. "Now try to pick that one up. But don't put it over your head, I don't want you droppin' it and hurtin' yourself. Just do what I did with it."

First, Ai put the first weight back where she got it. Then, Max took one of Andy's smaller adjustable weights and set the weight at 100 pounds. After he set it down for her, Ai toddled over to pick up the weight. Again, she lifted it with surprising ease.

She tried what Max had showed her, curling it a few times. Then she set it down and smiled at Max.

"Yeah, I figured," said Max, stepping over, and dialing it up to 150. "We just need to figure out what your actual upper limit is, is all, before we can get you anything to do you some good. Unless all you want's aerobics and not strength trainin'."

"What's aerobics?" Ai asked, curling the weight again, now at 150. She looked at Max with a concerned expression. Was she doing something wrong...? Lifting the weight was entirely too easy for her.
