Rhys gave a nod at their transfer, his trace of a smile constant. "Now, as you may be aware, learning the art of healing by means of staves is a very patient practice. It may take a long time for the results of your labor to show, but don't let that dissuade you. Everyone must start somewhere."

He knew there would be a lot of explaining involved, but Vianca wouldn't mind. "Now, magic, as how it works where I come from, is at the mercy of the supernatural. You're essentially borrowing the powers that spirits lend you. You just need to know how to seek their assistance is all. In each and every one of us lies the potential for magic. For some of us, we have a higher magic stat it comes easier. For others, it takes a little more work."

Rhys didn't need much time to perfect his knack for magic; it was inherent, and the gentle light spirits were drawn to his sweet and even-tempered nature; he wasn't aware of what exactly caused this ease of learning for him, however. All he understood was that he was praised for rapid development. "But having the staff in your hands is the first step. They are already listening. The next step is yours to take. Are you following me so far, Vianca?"

He was right in that she wouldn't mind all the explanation. In fact, she seemed to be hanging on to every last word. Well, okay, she didn't seem to be at all, but the reality was that she actually was. So she would, potentially, be borrowing powers from spirits. And they were already listening.

Vianca gripped the staff a bit more firmly and nodded her head. Yes, this seemed to be making sense so far. She did not expect the process to be an easy one for her, as she was just a plant, but she was ready to try.

"Now that you know how it feels to hold it in your hands, allow me to demonstrate once for you." Gently he plucked the staff from her grasp and held it in his own. There wasn't any immediate tissue to repair, but it would be encouraged to work regardless. Accumulating his focus to the one task, the bulb at the end of the staff began to burn with mysterious light blue radiance.

It all happened fast and without wasted time or movement. He only hoped Vianca would not come to expect the same from herself at this budding point of her clerical career. "It looked easy, and it will be once you get a feel for the technique," he said, looking to her eyes genially. "Now, I'm going to give this back to you and walk you through it step by step." He handed it back.

"So... I suppose I may begin by telling you that prompting a staff to work is like silently commanding it to do so with your will. It's like a string of silent urges, like when one of your comrades is getting too in over his head and thinks he can use a tome in place of a helme- I'm getting too carried away by actual examples here," he interrupted with a sheepish undertone permeating his expression. He continued. "Anyway, you're too far to reach with spoken words so you silently hope that he doesn't kill himself out there. That is obviously less... dire and stressful an example than this, but I think you understand what I mean. The staff almost becomes an extension of yourself and your wishes. Yes, that's a good way to put it."

Vianca watched the process carefully, somewhat entranced by the whole thing. This whole magic shebang had always been able to hold the little girl's attention whenever it was practiced in the office, so it almost felt a bit familiar now. Watching it, at least.

Having it in her hands again, Vianca had some vague doubts that she would be able to make it light up that way and be as helpful as it was to Rhys. Then again, if it were an extension of herself... Perhaps everything would be fine then. In time. She nodded at his examples, feeling that she could understand those fairly well. It was a feeling she often had with her sisters when they were there and getting themselves into trouble.

She stared at the bulb of the staff. Borrowing spirits, silent commands... Vianca wasn't quite sure what she was doing. She glanced at Rhys briefly, and then she stood quite still and concentrated some of her thoughts towards it.

... Hello.

Rhys eyed her work expectantly, as she had looked to him very briefly. The first try would have slim chances of success he knew, but it didn't stop him from having fervent hope in results. He should try to avoid breaking her concentration and so he remained quiet but encouraging.

Perhaps staring at it wasn't going to do much good. Vianca shut her eyes instead, focusing her thoughts to where she knew the bulb was at. But as she thought about it, perhaps that wasn't where she was supposed to be directing her thoughts at all. Perhaps just farther...

... out.

She thought she might have felt a little something, but she wasn't sure what that was. A few minutes later, Vianca opened her eyes again. Nothing had really happened yet.

No visible results. This didn't appear to dissuade Rhys, who sat there calm and hopeful as ever. He knew it would take time. Vianca had only just picked it up.

"You're doing well. Right now, I want you to just focus on familiarizing yourself with the staff. It's too soon to expect anything to happen. Like... learning to walk! Obviously, it comes with less falling and ugly bruising than that example, but you get better and better at it as you go, even if you don't get the results you're hoping for on the first tries. But the advancement is still there, and that's the important part."

She had the temperament of any good healer, that was for sure. Anyone who gave in easily to frustration would have a difficult time, if not an impossible time. That gave him even more faith in her ability. He knew that she would find success eventually, so long as she never gave up. "So... How do you feel so far, Vianca?"

Like learning to walk… Vianca gave the staff a considering look. So she'd try and try again. Perhaps she'd even find the balance it took to make things work. Vianca tilted her head, wondering if that was an appropriate way to think about it.

She looked back at Rhys, considering for a moment how she felt. It certainly wasn't a bad feeling. Deep down, there was the desire to get it to work, even if it was only to see if a lowly pikmin could do something quite so grand. She wanted it to happen.

Vianca nodded her head in an affirmative fashion. She felt, for the purpose of the question, pretty good.
