Warnings: Damn right there's going to be fighting; that's the entire purpose of this event
He had issued the challenge a month and a half ago. While Cyrus had an excellent reason for being unable to fulfil it until May, it still grated him that so much time had passed.
For that matter, only two others had actually accepted the challenge, hadn't they? A Snorlax, who would be fighting without the assistance of its trainer, and an unidentified other being that insulted him repeatedly and was, perhaps unsurprisingly, aligned with Lash.
Opening it to all comers was going to be interesting. Cyrus had stocked up on Revives and Leppa berries for between battles, as well as his usual habit of Full Restores for during. He had to remain in top form if he was to hope to overthrow the gods themselves. The battles today ought to be simple for someone with his destiny, but he had to keep honing his skills until the very end, and never underestimate anybody.
That had been his downfall last time. He had thought, in a moment of weak sentimentality, that the lake spirits could be freed from their containment without incident. After all, he had taken what he wanted from them. But at his moment of glory, with even that trainer useless behind him, they had bested him with a single blow.
It would never happen again. He would make sure of it.
Today was...not then, he reminded himself. And if Arceus was among his challengers, then all the better. He had gotten stronger since then, and even a loss in the arena was at least a learning experience, a chance to closely monitor its weaknesses.
The day awaited him, and not even God itself could know what lay ahead.
