Where: Bulba's dorm
When: Monday, Feb 7, afternoonish?
Warnings: Char.

Char knew he wasn't being fair.

In all the countless times that some kind of stupid bullshit had been causing problems in their team, it had always been Char's fault. The nice Bulbasaur that wanted to make friends with his new teammate got snapped at. That pissed-off Charmeleon was too busy with his precious little one-man-crusade against everything and everyone to care that there was a little plantsaur worrying himself sick over the constant fights, the troublemaking, the endless instigating. Didn't matter if Bulba got hurt when Char ran away, right? He'd never even wanted to be friends with the kid. When Bulba got turned into a mindless zombie against his will, Char chose to stand there and let himself be hurt -- but, of course, that meant a near-runaway situation again, because it was somehow his team's fault that Char actually felt some kind of attachment toward them. Char loses his mind, evolves, and spends a few days trying to burn down everything? Guess who ends up battered, burnt, and worn-out trying to chase after him? Guess who spends sleepless, horrified nights at the Pokemon Center, worrying about a Charizard that fought himself to the point of collapse or got shot for something completely and utterly meaningless?

Guess who got his heart broken just because his idiot brother couldn't wrap his head around the idea that someone in his family might just be into dudes?

Bulba had never done a single thing wrong to Char. Not in all the years they'd been together. He got dragged through problem after problem, none of which were his fault, and he was always still there, worrying away, leaving an anonymous potion or two by the door, showing up with a surprise batch of chocolate almonds. The one time he needed Char to stop having his head up his ass and just be there for Bulba, instead of the other way around, and Char had vanished without a word. Of course that wasn't fair. Of course it was selfish and close-minded and quite possibly the biggest dick move he'd pulled in a long career of dick moves.

But if there were two things Char was good at, they were being angry and being self-centered.

He'd never intended to cut Bulba out of his life. In typical emotionally-stunted-angstbucket style, he'd certainly made it seem that way with his sudden, unexplained getaway, but damnit, did the kid really think Char would toss him aside that easily?  Of course he did. This was someone who'd already tried to toss his team aside once before, and had spent much of his childhood literally trying to toss Bulba around. He didn't think that there was some kind of time limit on this -- "either embrace it completely the second you hear it, or you must never want to accept it at all". It was hard for him to deal with. Even now, he certainly couldn't call himself totally okay with the idea. But he'd wanted to try, dammit.

Of course, that had been before he'd come back. Char could deal with Green reaming him out. Bulba was Green's starter, after all, and Char had always carried the belief that a trainer's starter was the most important to them. It made sense that he'd want the team getting along, anyway -- and if there was only one person on this earth that Char felt was allowed to yell at him and actually be heard, then it was Green. Max, though... his little visit had proved to be a giant step backward. Char was already pretty annoyed that Bulba apparently thought it was better to tell total outsiders his big secret like a year before his team got to know, but when said outsiders basically amounted to every person in the very tiny circle of people he called friends, that really had a way of rubbing him the wrong way. Especially when first Green, then Max had made it perfectly clear that it was apparently a "me or him" situation, and they had very clearly chosen Bulba. Green had settled for just pressing Char into a wall, but when Max's "you are a terrible person and you should feel terrible" sermon had ended with him taking a swing, that was the last little nudge Char's volatile temper needed to flare up all over again.

...Bulba had left potions at his door after Max and Char's little scuffle. Char hadn't touched them. He'd almost been too proud to use Bulba's past potion-offerings when unrelated schoolyard brawls had left him roughed up. In this context, he found black eyes and bruised throats infinitely preferable to using them. So here he was, being thoughtful enough to return them. Bulba's door was usually open when he was around, and this was no exception; the door was left ajar. Char made no effort to knock: he simply swatted the door open with one wing, walked on in, and dumped the potions onto Bulba's desk. Then he realized he walked in on Bulba making out with Vinnie. There were no survivors.

"You tryin' to make fun of me or something?" he snapped, flicking a wing irritably toward the potions.
