That was not a very feminine voice at all. Kaz looked up in mild surprise. There went his plans for having a happy ending to this date.

"...Hey." Still, Brock wasn't a terrible guy. And at least Kaz had clothes on this time. "So you're my date tonight, huh? Have a seat."

He may have glanced over his shoulder to make sure there were no tentacle monsters looming behind him.

BUT THERE WAS...n't.

He stared at the chair for a moment as if it was going to bite him, but eventually he sat down, still looking exceedingly uncomfortable. This was all Ganondorf's fault. Always. Forever.

"We don't have to call it a date." He said. It felt strange calling it that when he had Erika and the person across the table from him was not a pretty lady. Miller seemed pretty disappointed about that. "Did you sign yourself up for this?"

Gee, Brock, why so serious? Kaz leaned back and poured himself another glass of wine. He started drinking just a little early. "Yeeeah, I was hoping to be paired up with someone more of the feminine persuasion. No offense. Maybe Samus or Erika..."

He gestured with the bottle toward Brock's glass. "Want any?"

"It's Ganondorf. He likes screwing with people." Hearing Kaz say he wished he'd end up with Erika made Brock stiffen. He and Erika weren't really common knowledge, but he didn't really like the idea of competition, especially not when the competition was someone suave like Miller.

As with the chair, Brock stared at the wine bottle as if it was going to grow teeth and bite him, but eventually he accepted it and poured himself a glass. "Sorry this didn't turn out the way you wanted, anyway."

"Well, it could certainly be a lot worse." Like being paired with Volgin or Falcon. That would suck. A lot. "Besides, we're getting a nice bit of cash just in time for the holidays. So let's just make the most of tonight."

He raised his glass!

Well...that was an all right way of looking at it. At least Miller was nice, if not a constant reminder of how inadequate Brock thought himself to be. Maybe...maybe he could get tips about girls.

He raised his glass before taking a sip. That was how it worked, right?

"So, um. How...have you been?" Brock was the most awkward.

Awkward, indeed. Miller hoped it wouldn't take too many drinks for Brock to relax and loosen up a little. He downed half his own glass before replying.

"Things have been a little uneventful on my end, but I can't complain." Besides being scared out of his wits by a big Russian brute. "What about you? Have any exciting plans for Thanksgiving?" It was marked on the school calendar; Kaz wondered if FDC was really in America after all...

Brock downed substantially less of his glass and coughed.

Uneventful at Smash Academy was usually good. Things had been pretty uneventful for him, too. He'd only just started thinking about the craziness that would be the holidays. "I'm probably going to head home. Things get pretty busy there around the holidays."

"Got a big family, huh?" He could only picture Mother Base's mess hall filled with various eyeless squinty-eyed children instead of soldiers. Speaking of Mother Base, considering how crazy it got for a regular meal, Miller was kind of thankful there were no real holidays celebrated there to make it even worse.

"You could say that." As if nine siblings could be considered small. "I have a lot of brothers and sisters, so the holidays are always busy."

At this point, he had begun perusing through the menu only to find that he had no idea what anything was. "What about you? Have any plans?"

As Kaz's only sibling was a dead half-brother he'd never met, he did not relate. At all. Nope, still picturing Mother Base.

He picked up his own menu, glancing through it. Those were some pricey items there. The school was paying for this, right? Right? He didn't want to blow through the hundred dollars just on food.

"I don't have anything in mind, no. I'll probably take the peace and quiet as an opportunity to get some extra work done."

Nothing in mind for the holidays sounded depressing. Brock bit his lip. The holidays at his house were always a few crazy, bustling months of no peace and quiet and wrapping paper everywhere. Of course, he wouldn't want it any other way.

"I'm sure there will be other people around the school. Do the headmasters set anything up over the break?"

"I never really bothered to check. Maybe I'll join in after all, if there is something. I haven't had a real Thanksgiving feast since college." Turkey sounded pretty darn good, the more he thought about it. "As long as there's no hallucinogenics or fake poison in the food again." Or real poison. Odds were if anything happened, it would make them all sprout feathers and run around gobbling for a few days.

Brock shrugged and leaned back a little in his chair. He was also quite wary of the school food, and therefore wary of any holiday celebrations that might involve school food.

"Well, luckily, I'll be getting out of here." It took him a minute to realize that maybe sounded like gloating. "I hope the food doesn't get poisoned. Again."
