What.

What.

Why was he being so nice? After those mean things Mikapii said to him? After just a simple misunderstanding? Brendan was a great trainer. What Mikapii said wasn't true, it wasn't, it was just mean, mean, mean...!

But why was he being so nice? No, why did Mikapii expect him to be different? Brendan was a good friend. A really good friend. And Mikapii had no idea how he'd been able to make it this long without apologizing, without even trying to talk things over with him.

Somehow, the niceness hurt. Not even that crack in the end was enough to counteract it. He wanted Brendan to yell at him, to tell him he was rude, to tell him he was inconsiderate and a jerk and deceitful and a whole list of other horrible things. He had gotten away with something horrible just a few days ago, and had even deceived Brendan. Brendan wouldn't be this nice if he knew. No, not even Brendan... and he was too scared to try.

Is that what he was really apologizing for? He didn't know. That wasn't the sort of thing anyone could just apologize for and hope it all went away. He fooled them all in such a horrible way...!

Mikapii didn't even notice that he had started to cry.

At first Brendan was worried that he might have said something wrong. And then when he saw the first tear fall from the other's eyes, he panicked.

"Wait, did I say something wrong?!" He thought over of what he said, hand to his chin, and began talking to himself. "No I didn't...Maybe that gender thing didn't need to be said, but..."--No, it wasn't the time to get into thinking mode. Linoone and Swellow was actually being in sync with each other and looking at him like he was the most horrible person on the planet for making someone cry. What a time to not fight with each other!

"I-I'm sorry if I said something wrong! So don't cry, alright?" He would have felt a little better if he knew exactly what made his friend start crying, as messed up as it sounded... He waved his arms around unsure what to do.

The second Brendan told him not to cry, suddenly, it was as if he couldn't stop. He let out a small sob and dropped his face into his hands, shoulders shaking as he wept. It wasn't Brendan's fault, Brendan wasn't the reason he was crying. He was so angry at himself and he was sad that he made so many other people angry.

It was like the Goldenrod Radio Tower incident all over again. He did something stupid and without thinking, and thereafter swore never to sing in front of people again. What could he do this time? Swear to never talk to these people again? Drop out? Leave forever? He doesn't know.

And the worst of it all, this time his father isn't there to deal out the punishment for him. Instead, Mikapii is there to stew in his own guilt, essentially getting away with this horrible trick...! But with all this guilt, he wasn't really getting away with it, right? Maybe feeling this way could make up for things?

But crying wasn't going to make it up to Brendan. Nor would it ever allow anyone to forgive him. He couldn't tell them. He couldn't lose everyone's trust, everyone's friendship. Already shamed in his hometown, Final Destination City was his final destination. There was no running away back home anymore.

"I-I'm s-sorry... s-so... s-sor-r-ry..." Wiping his eyes in vain, he tried to force a smile. "D-Dunno wh-why I'm c-c-c... c-cryin'..."

Well... he did. Somewhat. But he couldn't let Brendan know that.

O-oh boy... He probably made the situation worse, didn't he? He couldn't help but frown at the sight. Without knowing what else to do, Brendan pulled the other into a light and slightly awkward hug, giving a light pat on Mikapii's head in attempt to give some comfort.

"There's nothing to worry." He said, not knowing what else to say at the moment. He vaguely remembered his mother comforting him as a little kid like this, when he had broken one of his father's lab equipments and ran to his mother crying. Didn't she let him cry out his tears before doing anything else...?

So he did just that; he held Mikapii close to him as the other continued to sob.

Mikapii hadn't expected the hug, and his first instinct was to try and pull away. But when Brendan spoke, Mikapii felt a small part of him calm down. Maybe... maybe there was nothing to worry about? If he never told anyone, it'd be like it never happened, right? Sure, he'd have to deal with the guilt, but even guilt subsides eventually. It would take awhile, but he'd get over this. Who knows, maybe someday he'll come clean about all of this and they'll share a good laugh!

Or their friendship will be shattered beyond repair.

The hug may have started out light, but it doesn't take long for Mikapii to cling to the other boy, burying his face in his chest as he sobbed. It takes him a few minutes of this until the sobs quiet down into occasional whimpers. And eventually, Mikapii pulls away. His eyes are red and he's definitely all cried out by now.

"...'m sorry. Tha' was stupid..."

"Don't worry about it." Brendan replied with a smile as he let go from the hug. He was glad that he had some experience through being an older brother; if he hadn't had a younger brother to take care of (sometimes), he probably would have ran off and be more of a jerk than he wanted to. Of course, this was from not knowing exactly why Mikapii had broken down into tears. If he found out right then and there, he may have taken the "jerk" route and left the other alone.

"There are times where you just need to cry it out, you know? It happens to everyone." He hadn't had any breakdown incident after his younger brother was born, though. He hoped there wouldn't be a time where he'd cry his eyes out, though. And then he jinxed himself.
