Finally the speech! will_be_god October 9 2010, 07:55:10 UTC
Once he was certain that everyone had arrived and he had their attentions, Cyrus drew in a breath. "We know of gods worshipped throughout creation. We are not here to discuss or debate the existence of these deities, but to discuss the problems inherent in that."

He folded his hands behind his back. "A ruler who proclaims inequality and demands sacrifice is one that ought not to be obeyed. A ruler who ignores their peoples' cries for help as their lands fall to ruin is one to be rebelled against. A ruler who demands followers and bloodshed for their own aggrandizement is one to be overthrown. Yet we accept it from our gods. We blindly do as they tell us, or as those claiming to represent them tell us. We do not question them, as to do so is seen as a sin. Yet we recognize these issues in other mortals..."

After a pause, he added "...or history does, to look back on things. Yet it does not lend the same eye to those orders."

He cleared his throat. "Perhaps your god does not demand war. Perhaps they are simple and ask you to preserve the world. Yet that cannot stand either, for without progress there can be no advancement. Things must change; it is in the very nature of the universe. To demand otherwise is counterproductive to creation."

A slight shift to one side. "Why do we accept these orders? Because we are told that these beings have created us? Yet we would not accept those same orders from our ancestors. To be told that we are inferior, that we must submit to another... That thinking...how similar to that which permits abuse." Did his eyes unfix at that word or was that a trick of the light? "...That only those who obey are worthy, regardless of their contributions to society outside the confines of that god's demands? How foolish."

His summation was slower than the rest, and he seemed to be more affected. "...Yet a worthy ruler is possible. Does a worthy god exist? Can a worthy god exist? One who truly believes in the good of all...I believe the potential is there. What are your thoughts on the matter?"

The question at the end was sudden, and in fact he could have gone on for a bit longer. But he wanted to see where this was going so far, and took a seat as he had before.

Of course, Selene was one of the first to speak. She stood up herself, organizing the thoughts in her head before letting words come.

"There must be." Time for elaboration! "If the world is to survive under the hands of an unworthy god... no, perhaps that is not possible? If this world has gone on for so long, there must be some deity that is taking some form of better control, is there not? A higher being that leads all humans and creatures to some form of decency... to a fault, although the world is not quite perfect."

That's all she had for now. What else was there to say, she wondered? At least not until some more discussion roused up.

"Yet is that by the hand of god?" he asked with a step towards her. "Or is it by loosening their yoke?"

Selene paused for a moment, absorbing the information, and then spoke again. "I would hope imperfections are not caused by the god with purposeful ill-intention, if that is what you intended to mean." That would be more inexcusable.

"Perhaps, perhaps not. I believe that is individual. However, we accept it. We accept ignorance. We accept disinterest. We would not accept those in our mortal leaders. What, then, divides them?" It was a reiteration of his entire speech, but he didn't care. Whatever got his point across.

It did get the point across, so either way, it was a success. "I do not understand why. I... would not accept an unworthy leader as I wouldn't accept an unworthy god myself."

If Selene knew of a god that literally did its best to make people miserable, then she'd just lose even more faith.

"Is it that way among your people? It must be, as you heed my words."

"I am not quite sure. I've never learned as we all find our mortal leader to be worthy and had rarely thought of gods... for a time."

Although since the Cordelia issue from some time back, it had stuck to her mind.

"I see," he pondered. "What makes your leader worthy?"

((OOC: Andddd since their ruler is Lip's mother, just... insert Selene saying some good things here since I don't want to say too much without Kiz's consultation first. %( S-Sorry, just assume, uh. GOOD LEADER THINGS..))

Cyrus nodded. "Fascinating. Although would you be able to determine a turn..."

"A turn, sir?"

What exactly did he mean by that? She wanted elaboration on that.

"If she was to become unworthy, would you be able to act against her?" A simple enough question in words, anyway.

Now that was a very difficult question. Selene was conflicted. While she loved the Queen of Popples, if her rule became unbearing, what would she do? If she rebelled, she'd probably hurt Lip's feelings over it. Then again, if she was really that bad, wouldn't the other fairies try to find a way to make things work again? Would they want to act against her in a better manner than riots and violence? Surely then it'd be more understandable, and that's probably what Cyrus meant, which made the question easier to answer.

"I'm afraid I would have no choice but to do so."

That was definitely hard to answer.

"Admirable. I pray that it never comes to it, just the same."

"As do I."

Her voice is a bit shaky, as if she wasn't happy that this had to be brought up. It was for good intention, but... still. The thought of that was awful.
