Luigi had been wandering around, exploring the large academy. He stopped exploring and decided to rest under the shade of the tree, and appreciate the nice weather.

He had been thinking about why he hadn't followed Mario home. The only reason he stayed at this academy was to keep an eye on Bowser, since his brother told him to do so while he was gone. He certainly didn't want Mario to come back and be disappointed at him for not keeping an eye on Bowser.

Luigi then realized that he had, actually, been avoiding Bowser. If he avoided Bowser, then he wouldn't be able to make sure Bowser wasn't doing anything evil when nobody was looking. Luigi sat up and looked around. Perhaps he should look for Bowser right now. He had nothing better to do.

Luigi laid back down. Maybe later. He had been wandering around the whole academy all morning, and didn't really feel like looking for and approaching the large, fire-breathing Koopa.

Oh great it was the lame brother. Perfect.

"Okay Luigi is Mario's crybaby brother. I want to see him weeping. So. Why don't you tell him you're not his real brother, or tell him that you're going to shave off your mustache and he should, too, because you think mustaches are dumb. Or act all nice to him and then punch him in the face. Just make him cry."

"Yuk yuk yuk..." While the task did sound easy enough, Doopliss knew that he had to take this one a little bit more carefully. After all, Luigi was the one that knew Mario the most, being related and all. One little slip up and it'll be all over!

So, the disguised Doopliss started strolling towards Luigi, taking a look around. There seemed to be no one else in sight. Perfect. "Hey-a, Luigi!" the fake Mario called out to the younger plumber.

Luigi stood up as soon as he heard the familiar voice of his brother. "Mario?" He smiled at the fake Mario. "I thought you went back to the Mushroom Kingdom!"

"Oh, yeah, I did!" 'Mario' smiled back. "For a little bit, anyway. Actually, I came back because I found out something." The fake now looked concerned. "Something huge. You've got time, right?"

Luigi's smile turned into a frown as he realized Mario came back with bad news. "G-Got time for what? What happened?"

What did happen that would make Mario look so concerned. Luigi always saw his older brother as a hero, who fought his way through danger, no matter what. Was it something Bowser did? Was it Luigi's fault for not keeping an eye on him? What could Bowser have done that Mario would be concerned about? If it wasn't Bowser, could it be some evil plan King Boo had thought up? Come to think of it, Luigi hadn't seen King Boo in quite a while. Maybe Bowser and King Boo were working together this time. That was probably it. Was the Mushroom Kingdom doomed, no matter what the Mario Bros did to protect Princess Peach and her kingdom?

...Or maybe it wasn't something as horrible as Luigi thought it was.

Woah, this guy got riled up fast. This really was going to be a piece of cake! Unfortunately, things were about to get so much worse for the taller, greener plumber.

“Well,” he started, sitting down. He had a feeling this was going to take a while. “I was-a back in the house, looking over some things, when I found something. It wasn’t anything huge, just our birth certificates. However, I did notice something else under it. It was a bunch of…other papers. Adoption papers.

“Luigi, we’re not related.”

Luigi sat down in front of the fake Mario and listened.

"You- We- What- But- But- We're not related?! B-But how can that be?! Weren't we twins?! Weren't we both delivered by the same stork when we were babies?!"

This was horrible news. He was adopted?! Luigi felt like crying. As he panicked, he failed to wonder why Mario was randomly searching through their birth certificates. Perhaps he the question would come up later on.

"Well..." the fake Mario mused, "What must have happened was that the stork must have made a mistake and carried you instead of my real sibling! Then, when we were reunited with Mom and Dad, they found out that you weren't actually their son, but they wanted to adopt you anyways. They-a kept it really tight lipped, apparently..."

"Well, what- What happened to your real sibling?" Luigi tried his best to stay calm as he took in all of what "Mario" was saying. So, he wasn't really Mario's brother, and there was some sort of mix-up, making him be delivered instead of Mario's real brother. Weren't the storks not supposed to make those sort of mistakes? Luigi felt bad as he imagined what had happened to Mario brother. Did the stork drop him? Wait- Didn't the stork drop Mario at one point? And then Mario, along with the Yoshis' help, rescued Luigi, who was kidnapped by Kamek. Why would Mario go to all that trouble, as a baby, to save another baby he hardly knew?

"But... Wait... Why did you rescue me when we were younger, then? You were just a baby, and you hardly knew me..."

Uh oh. He hit a snag. He was afraid of this. He had no idea that Mario as a baby went out and rescued Luigi…though come to think of it, he had no idea about most of the stuff Mario did in his past. Maybe he could shake it off?

“That’s exactly it! I didn’t know that you weren’t my real brother and I mistook you for him! That’s why I rescued you way back then!” Mario shrugged. “Eh, what would you expect, I was a baby.”

"B-But you still love me like I was your real brother, right?"

Even if Luigi was adopted, they were still brothers. Luigi just hoped that Mario didn't blame him for the loss of his actual brother, and they would still be able to carry on with their lives as the Mario Bros.

“Well, now that the truth is out…and now that I really think back…you HAVE been a thorn in my side for a really long-a time,” the fake Mario improvised. “It actually feels good to know that we’re not related, because that means I don’t have to love you unconditionally! In fact, I can start hating you instead! Woo hoo!” He got back up and took in a sigh of relief. “It feels-a good to get that off of my chest!”

"B-But- I- No- You can't- How- But you saved me all those times! I thought we... I thought we were the Mario Bros! W- We saved each others lives! We've been on so many adventures together! I- I..." Luigi began sobbing. "But... But..." Luigi slowly got up and stood in front of the fake Mario, rubbing his eyes with the backs of his gloved hands. "Why do you hate me?! I never did anything bad to you intentionally! It's not my fault I'm so clumsy! It's not my fault I'm followed by bad luck wherever I go! I'll try my best! I'll do anything you say! Just please- Please don't leave me alone!"

Luigi stumbled towards his fake brother and collapsed to his knees, clinging onto the false Mario's waist and sobbing into his overalls.

This was perhaps. The greatest thing. Bowser had ever seen.

He had to bite down on his lip to keep from bursting out in laughter.

And Tears. Tears of joy. Tears of joy rolling down his scaly cheeks.

This moment. That this moment would go on forever. He would etch it into his memory so that he could look back on it fondly for the rest of his life.

Well, he got Luigi crying like a baby, which was a victory in his book! But now he was in an awkward position, with the younger plumber clutching onto him. A clean getaway wouldn’t be the case here. The first thing he had to do was to get this guy off his back.

“Hey-a, get off of me!” the fake Mario said, irritated. “There’s nothing you can do to change yourself, anyway! You’re-a just going to keep on acting like your whiny self! What’s the point?!” During this, he started to try and push Luigi off of him. “Geez, you’re so annoying…”
