COOKING CLASS #4: Forget giving thanks, let's COOK!

Nov 16, 2009 11:34

Who: Louie and his students.
What: Cooking class! Time to learn how to prepare traditional turkeys and such! Er, in this case, drumsticks.
Where: Louie's classroom.
When: Monday, November 16th
Warnings: Kitchen being set on fire if the students screw up Perhaps nothing. `3`

*Louie's classroom is set up quite similarly to the usual. The counters all around and the center 'island' are all wiped down and cleaned off. There is an objective scribbled on the chalkboard that Louie shall get to when students show up. This objective must be related to those raw turkey drumsticks on the counter, as well as various pans (for ovens and stoves alike), ingredients, and spices relating to the turkey and other things. Goodie joy!

Once everyone shows up, Louie clears his throat, spends a minute pulling himself together, and finally speaks.*

Hello. Welcome back to Cooking. Today, we will be learning how to prepare raw meat safely. We will do this first before we do our cooking today.

*He pauses, wondering if that's all he needs to say for now. He then goes over to the turkey drumsticks and, as an example, takes one. He sticks it under the water and washes it, pulling off any nasty excess fats. He then sticks it onto the pan.* Clean your drumstick of any fats. You may also remove some of the skin if you do not like it. *He takes the drumstick back and demonstrates removal of the skin, at least partial removal to show how it's done. He then places it back onto his pan.*

Now... this part is important. After touching raw meat, please wash your hands. Please, use water and anti-bacterial soap. *He sticks his hands under the water and does so.* You should do this so you will not get ill from salmonella and other bad bacteria.

*PAUSE AND STARE. Okay what now what now hmmm uhhhhh OH YEAH.*

Your objective today... is to make your turkey drumstick in any way you'd like. Use spices and oils for flavor, but be careful not to over-season. You must also make any small side dish to go with it.

*He places a list of recipes on the table for those who might need it, as well as a notepad with sign up sheets:

"Name:
Age:
Side dish:"*

Good luck.
