It was a tiring week for everyone, not just the Biology teacher himself. The week after this one should indicate that everything will go back to way it had been. As the students made their way inside the class room, Olimar had been sitting at his desk as if he had been waiting for a while. Being punctual had always been a priority. After the late bell had finally gone off, the man sat up from his spot to walk in front of the class before him. Other than an unnoticed haircut, there was nothing unusual about him. He's not a Myspace whore like Falcon is to show off. Whore.
"It appears to be Friday once again." Olimar started with an obvious opening statement, well knowing that one more boring class was enough to ruin a Friday. "I understand that the commotions that had gone on throughout the school had taken an effect on not just our students, but our staff as well." Without another word, a black dry erase marker was picked up with his left hand.
The teacher turned around to write in big letters on the top of the whiteboard, or... as close to the top as he could reach.
PROJECT
"I know that we have only started to expand on our section for plants." The marker cap was closed with a click. "However, staying close to a textbook proves drab and uninteresting. It is not a method in which everyone can follow clearly or enthusiastically." The cap went off again, and as Olimar began to slowly draw out a picture of a young plant sprout, he continued his explanation as if he weren't.
"Plants are different from us; they have their own 'organs' and structures due to their differing cells, but we already finished with cells and our microbiology quite some time ago. Yet, they effect our lives, and essentially keep us alive. Like animals, they are very much alive and grow. They grow, they produce, and they die. ((They fight, they carry, they multiply and they get eaten.))"
The picture on the whiteboard was becoming more clear, even if Olimar wasn't exactly an artist. "Their parts and their functions can be covered as many times as I please, but my lectures only prove fruitful when my students are able to learn and put their attained knowledge to use."
He stopped, if just to spend more time trying to get everything on the board to look a little decent. After a minute of trying to get his presentation to a content level, he turned back around to the classroom. Nothing on the board was new, simply review. Ignore Numbers' horrible horrible handwriting.
"I would like to assign the class to raise plants. There will be cards given out for suggestions on what kind or even kinds of seeds I should bring in for next time." Even if he smiled, his voice became firm. Lightly. "This is NOT an easy A. Notes shall be taken for each of life cycles accordingly. You may also identify what type of cycle they have: annual, perennial or biennial. Observations on their parts and how they take in energy will be expected. If you are unsure..." he sighed, "there will be more lectures along the way beside the textbook." Realizing that his project was starting to sound more like a punishment than anything else, it seemed like the best time to bring in the good news. "While you may use homework from before for information, there will be no more to come. ...This will BE your homework for a while."
As said, this was no easy get off of homework project. "Instead, I expect certain segments of your notes to be turned in at marked dates. Due to the fact one large credit for your assignment and observations may seem like too much, I am breaking the project down. That also implies that if one were to leave a certain part of your notes blank, then credit towards that particular assignment will be a zero."
There was still some blank space on the board, so Olimar wrote down the following:
Name: Grade: Plant Suggestion: "Now, what kind of notes do I expect and how do I require them to be written? That will wait for next class... for when I bring in the seeds. Our school year is long; while I may not have forever to go on about one subject, we still have time to go about this at an easy and relaxing pace. What you will be writing and answering questions for will only be assigned as our subjects grow. This class must be productive, but forcing pressure and unintentionally causing stress are both simply not how I go about teaching."
He walked back over to where the index cards were.
"The rest of the class will be spent talking about the upcoming project and filling out these cards. While I shall be grouping students once these cards are turned in, I will do my part in making sure each group receives a plant of interest." There just had to be one kind of plant everyone liked. As if to cue conversation, the teacher went around each desk to place a card. "I will be shuffling the cards so your partner will be chosen at random."
((So yeeeeeeeeeah, project time you guys. I really will be randomizing who will go with who when people sign up. For plants... you can pick just about anyy kind I guess. Even... fictional plants. This IS Smash Academy after all! If your character isn't sure... I'm sure they could just pick a plant that grows a vegetable or something they like. I have a feeling someone is going to be an asshole and suggest a tree. Nothing too big obviously, but they could probably use the greenhouse and he will just supervise their well being from there. If it wasn't clear, it will be more than one plant. One plant for each group, does that make sense? While everyone gets to suggest, not everyone's plant will be taken into consideration due to the fact this is a group project.))
