The best part about a carnival was the food. And Max didn't care about prices - he was some sort of army commander type, he had a good salary. So this meant he could eat food like it was nobody's business.

And it was certainly Max's business to eat food.

He was holding seven foot-long corndogs - one was for Jake, three were for Blastoise, and three were for himself. He passed them out to their respective owners. "Dig in, there's more where that came from."

"Thanks Bra," Jake replied, taking his corn dog and digging in. He hadn't had a corn dog in a long time.

"Diggin' this place so far," he said.

"Yeah," said Max, his mouth full of corn dog. "Me, too. I love carnival food. I'm gonna have to do like a million situps tomorrow, but it's worth it."

"Since when did you ever complain about doing situps?" Jake asked.

"It means I won't have as much time tomorrow for my back and shoulders, tomorrow's when I work my lats and delts," said Max, "It means I do fewer raises - I like raises." He liked most weightlifting exercises.

"I thought you liked most of those exercises," Jake reminded him. He knew Max's habits too. "So what's the plan?"

"Well we can either eat a lotta food now and then go on rides and probably get sick, or we can go on rides now and then eat a lotta food and probably not get real sick," said Max as he mumbled through a mouth full of corn dog.

"Alright," said Max, finishing number two and working on number three. He mumbled through his third corn dog, "Then we'll ride rides first then eat more stuff after okay?"

"Word, bra," Jake replied. Jake cocked his head. "Hey, man, you've had this weird look on your face all day. You okay?"

"What?" Max said as he finished his third corn dog. "What I don't... maybe I dunno. Maybe I've got milkshakes all over my face my thinkin' face on is all. You ever think about stuff, Jake?"

"Sure, all the time," he said. He wasn't kidding. Jake's mind typically worked a mile a minute, all the time. "Sometimes I think about stuff for my friends, sometimes I wonder about stuff like how big the universe is, you know, stuff like that."
