Oh, where there was ice, there was NESTER. Ice-skating just felt like one of those really awesome old-school things like roller-blading and... Ye Olde Video Gaming. Aw hell yeah, bra. Thus, he just had to do it.

Stepping out there, he decided that he was too damn cool for ice skates, and that he'd just do it with his shoes. He then stepped out onto the snow beside the ice and screamed out, "HEY FINAL DESTINATION CITY. Watch as I draw a PES CONTROLLER in the ice with my shoes!" He rubbed his hands together and WENT TO WORK.

... if stepping onto the ice and falling flat on his face counted as work.

Thus, he groaned and got on his rear, and tried to push himself to shore with his hands... but failed and moved in the opposite direction.

Best. Work. Ever.

Lighter watched the spectacle, taking comfort in the fact that he wasn't the worst skater after all. He slowly pushed himself to his feet... which slid out from beneath him and he simply fell again.

All Nester could do was raise an eyebrow and look out at the man trying his damndest to get back onto his feet and... failing. He skidded up to him with his gloved, yet freezing cold hands, and blinked. "... wow. At least I have my way of moving, old man!"

Old man? OUCH. Kids today showed no respect. Lighter huffed and put his attempts on hold, trying to look at least somewhat dignified. "Last I heard, you're supposed to skate on your feet, not your behind. Least I'm tryin' to get back on my feet!"

He made another, more careful attempt to steady himself. Okay... good... good. He was standing. But he didn't dare move.

Olaf skated by them with a shocking amount of skill and grace. Looping a perfect figure eight around the two while skating backwards, looking almost bored while doing it, he said, "Don't lock your knees so much," to Lighter, then to Nester, "and he's right, at least he isn't scooting around on his rump like a walrus. Also, heard back from your parents yet?"

((OOC PS - If Lighter has his 4x4 with him on the ice Olaf might say something about that, too. Also if he has his 4x4 with him then Olaf wants Lighter to help rescue Eggman from the watery depths before he dies.))

OH GOD NO IT'S OLAF.

The walrus comment, plus the whole thing about his parents, had only made him all too determined to get up onto his feet. Pushing his hands down on the sheet, he got his feet touching the solidified water below and slowly, steadily, he raised the rest of his body up. He... definitely wasn't very well-balanced, but... it was something.

"They said..." Nester DID remember seeing a letter from his parents, but... he didn't bother to read it yet. He probably still had it laying around, though. "... uh. Igotaletterfromthemanddidn'treadityet BUT I BET THEY WON'T SEND ME TO BOOT CAMP." He pointed at him and attempted to look... intimidating.

Olaf, still doing a perfect figure eight around the two, backwards, leaped into the air, did a double axle, and then landed back in the tracks of his most perfect of figures, and continued inscribing the number as if there had been no interruption.

"I see," said Olaf. "I'd read that letter if I were you - showing up late for boot camp is not something I'd suggest you do. In fact, it's a one-way ticket into cleaning the latrines each and every day."

((OH HI LATEPOST IS LATE LIGHTER DOES INDEED HAVE HIS COMPENSATION $x$ WITH HIM))

Where did this old man learn to skate?! Well, he obviously knew what he was talking about, and so Lighter tried to relax a bit and bend his knees. That was... somewhat more stable. Sort of. He still didn't feel at all at ease.

Although hearing that this little punk kid might be sent to boot camp did make him feel warm and fuzzy inside. "Ah, let the kid learn it from experience. It'll do'im good."

Nester just watched as Olaf continued to... bother with him, but... it didn't even seem to distract him very much. How... how the HELL did he... DO THAT?! Bah, not like it mattered to him. All he was focusing on was...

"... FINE. Fine, I will when I get home! I just bet I WON'T like it!" He huffed and folded his arms over his chest... thus... allowing him to fall right over on his rump again. "OW!"

Trying to pull himself back up again, he also shot a quick glare at Light in the process. Wow, the old man had a sharp mouth? That was a shock.

Olaf continued his most perfect of figures and said to Lighter, "Also that plank you're carrying might be leaving you off-balanced. In fact it most certainly is. You should get rid of it now. I could carry that thing while skating just fine, but if you're a beginner you shouldn't try something like that ( ... )

What? Leave behind his 4x4? That was crazy talk! It was practically an extension of his own self after all these years, but... yeah, it probably wasn't doing much to help him skate right now.

--Oh, never mind, apparently it was going to come into use after all. A rescue mission, oh boy! Lighter would be more than willing to help out someone who was DROWNING in trouble, even if it was some big city weirdo. But then there came the question, which stirred up doubts in Lighter. It sounded a lot like the propaganda used by the Pig Mask Army, and that hadn't done anybody any good. Armies in general were bad news from his experience.

But Olaf's urgency made it sound like this was going to be the only way to save whoever'd fallen under the ice - as ridiculous as the notion was. Maybe the man had simply been in the army for so long that taking a rescue mission as some kind of army thing was automatic by now.

Lighter decided he might as well humour him; this was no time for arguments. "Yes, yes, let's get to it!"

"You can skate now. Follow me, soldier" barked Olaf, and he quickly skated away towards the drowning Eggman.
