Tubba Blubba couldn't have been happier, and that wasn't an exaggeration. The poor kid. He'd been miserable for, almost literally, his entire life. It wasn't just teenage angst either, as could be expected from many of SBG's students. Abandoned by his parents, left with nothing but a horrible name, bullied constantly by everyone he'd ever known, all but tortured by Bow. For most of his life, he hadn't had a thing to be happy about.
Then Bowser came along, and gave him the power to fight back. What a happy time that had been! He didn't have to give in to anyone, he was strong enough to fight back! He had the power to live his life without fear... until Mario came along, played the hero, crushed him, and took everything back.
Then it was right back to miserable. Even as he began to attend SBG, things didn't get much better. He was still bullied. He didn't do particularly well in classes. He didn't have a single friend. Nothing changed, until sophomore year. He began to get his hopes up again. Makar, and Jolteon, and a smattering of other friends, even though stupid Parakarry and Goombario were there. But the universe held its usual in store for him. Bow began to attend SBG, and once again, his life turned into a mess. He spent most of his time outside of classes cowering in his room, waiting for the inevitable torment, as if pillows and blankets would somehow help him. He won a few small victories, but nothing really changed until Jynx came along.
Jynx... made him feel like the world wasn't such an awful place anymore. She gave him hope. Hope that people might not just be building him up to bring him crashing down again. Hope that maybe people weren't such horrible things after all. Hope that he could be loved.
He had no redeeming qualities, only flaws. He was too heavy. He was terrifying in his Clubba form, but he was still so weak. His heart was a filthy creature he despised. He would jump, seeing himself in the mirror, seeing a tree sway in the wind, seeing his own shadow. He wasn't brave, or smart, or funny. He cried all the time. He was 16, he shouldn't do that. He was a pathetic creature who couldn't trust anyone, not even himself.
Jynx... she liked him anyway. Doubts faded away, even that despair, that terrifying notion that she would hate him once she got to know him. Everything was quashed, brushed out of his mind, and only that warming feeling he was so nervous to call love remained. He reminded himself that it was silly, that they'd never even met in person, but he couldn't help the smile that graced his lips, something as simple as a tiny grin giving off a warming aura that radiated through his body even on this chilly evening.
His heart raced as he began to approach the building. "Jynx! Jynx!" he cried at the top of his lungs, despite being so far away he couldn't even make out which blur was her. Blonde, red dress, that was what she'd said. He squinted into the distance as he picked up his pace.
