Cyrus had been deep in his studies when the music started, and he clamped hands over his ears, searching his desk for the ear plugs that he'd gotten when wolves had howled outside his window for several nights straight.

But music often indicated a party, and he still needed to locate Uxie. Jamming the wax molds into his ears, he poked his head out into the hallway.

Voile had, in all good conscience, gone to locate the source of the music that was blasting fairly loudly over the PA speakers. She hadn't even known that the academy had speakers of that volume. But for one reason or another, she imagined the ruckus could be heard all the way out in the city that she never actually went to.

That would clearly have to change. Especially if it meant getting away from the loud racket. Some people liked studying.

She blinked when she brushed past Cyrus and turned to look at him. "Cyrus?" He must have been enjoying the extravaganza something fierce. Except not.

With the ear plugs, he didn't hear her, and only wrinkled his nose in disgust that someone would pollute the campus with such noise.

She nearly rolled her eyes and wandered back over to him before prodding him in the shoulder. He might not have been able to hear her, but she was going to take a gander he could still retain a sense of feeling and touching.

But if he jumped around or started flailing strong arms, she was going to duck. And fast.

And he whipped his head around so fast that it gave him a minor headache. "Oh, Voile." It was almost a relief, since his mind had already formed an elaborate conspiracy.

She knew it was coming. Hands lifted defensively and she quickly edged away before she eyed him. Then she nodded and wiggled her fingers. "Hello," she replied, though she wasn't sure he could hear her.

She blinked as she looked around, unsure of how to convey herself if he definitely couldn't hear. But then she figured she might as well try. The worst thing that could happen was she having to repeat herself. "I haven't found where it's coming from yet, but I wish they'd turn it off."

Likely she was saying something about the noise. He turned and gestured that she come inside.

There was a nod and she turned to follow after him with a very light smile. It must have been the music that made her so chipper.

Once he slammed the door shut, he worked the ear plugs out. It was still very loud, but at least they could hear each other. "This...foolishness consumes the campus yet again."

Voile blinked and settled her hands over her ears, pulled them away, set them back, and repeated the cycle a few times. "Ooh. It's not as loud in here, but you still can't get away from the music. It's louder in the student dormitories, though. I wonder if it started there."

Then she finally lowered her hands and slipped her hands behind her back, "It must be driving you crazy."

"I...detest noise. That unnecessary cacophony that drowns us out in every day..." With a sigh, he sat down on the couch by the window. "There is a certain sound to life, but so much more is simply...distasteful."

She nodded slowly as she thought about that. "I wonder, do you feel the same way about all music, or just this obnoxious racket they're playing now? I get the feeling you might like softer music, like classical or something." But it was just a guess. Only the gods really knew what Cyrus liked.

Besides perfection.

He shook his head. "I do not care for such things. However, some can be rather pleasant, if done for a vital purpose. It is said that even one of those obnoxious songs of the disco era is the perfect tempo to perform CPR by, although that was undiscovered for quite a while."

She blinked at him. Really? How did he even know? Did he test it out himself? Another ten questions flooded her mind and she finally pushed them aside in favour of one. An important one. "...How did you discover that little tidbit?" She still wanted to know if he'd ever performed CPR on someone. She didn't even know how to...

"It has been a scientific study, although I am unsure how they came to that specific conclusion." Really he didn't quite want to know, either.

"Huh... That's sort of intriguing. It won't ever come in handy for me, but it's still interesting. I always knew music had use to it, but I didn't realise it could be used for something so practical."

Okay. She was a little impressed with his intellect. But not much.
