mistaken Identity

Recently, I was out shopping with the family, and the last stop happened to be a grocery store where there are handicapped and "15 min parking" spots. As we were walking out the door, I thought I recognized a vehicle, and the passenger as none other than the greatest High-school English Teacher/Director/Author/Playwright in the state of Minnesota.

I knocked lightly on the hood of the beat-up Ford pickup, and waved at the occupant. She waved back, smiled, and then rolled down her window.

I said "hey, How are you?"

"Fine, thanks. Now, Where do I know you from?"

I realized before she spoke that she wasn't who I thought she was, because she was a bit smaller, and was hooked up to an oxygen tank.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were an old teacher of mine, Have a nice night."

I walked away, and felt so much like an idiot.
But you know what? I bet just saying Hello made her feel special even if but for a moment.

Commit random acts of kindness, kids. It will make the whole world a better place.

public, kindness, kids
