So, I just came home from seeing Batman Begins with my brother, and, in my opinion, there are no words to truly describe its excellence. However, I will try and describe it. If I've ever discussed my taste in movies with you (and I probly havent), then you'll know that, for me to like a movie, it has to be action-packed/suspenseful, funny, and/or thought provoking (interesting on a moral level). There was not a second in this movie that did not appeal to at least one of these positive cinematic qualities.
Action-packed/suspenseful: The Dark Knight is more of a Dark Ninja in some of the darkest, best coreographed, and best filmed fight scenes i have seen in my life. Also, the movie is filled with suspense as Batman uses the dark of night to sneak up on the unfortunate pawns of the villains of Gotham. Also, as many fall victim to an airborn hallucinogen (sp?), crazy shit happens.
Funny: Although this movie's prime interest is definitely not comedy, the antics of Morgan Freeman and Christian Bale are sufficiently entertaining.
Thought-provoking: While simply the action and occasional humor would have sufficiently made Batman Begins worth the price of a ticket, Christopher Nolan decided not just to make a good film, but a great one. Batman has always been my favorite hero because he does not have superpowers, and he is only an ordinary man on a mission to follow in his father's legacy of trying to save the city of Gotham. The movie's theme is that you fall down so that you have a chance to teach yourself how to get back up (its worded much better in the movie). We all experience setbacks in our lives, and if Batman, a common man with uncommon resolve, can overcome them, the rest of us can too. This theme and other minor themes add a new dimension of depth to the film that has been noticeably absent in so many others.
So, in brief, not only was the movie witty, and not only did it have the best action and suspense of just about every other movie I have seen, but it was also one of the most intelligent.
In even briefer: see it now
