so the first few days of break i spent looking at colleges, which didnt suck quite as badly as i expected
First was U Rochester, which was awesome. the campus was cool looking and my tour guide was cool. not to mention the only grad requirement is one semester of freshmen writing, and i can take voice lessons at the Eastman school of music, which is top 3 in the country.
Then we drove for a few hours and went to Hamilton College, which is in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY. the campus was orgasmic because it was designed by the same guy who did princeton, and was built at the same time. one of the buildings got switched, so Hamilton has a princeton building, and princeton has a hamilton building. i didnt learn too much about it, except that its in the middle of nowhere because the students werent there. its worth looking into more.
Then, Ithaca. And by Ithaca i mean Cornell and not U Ithaca. The Cornell campus is simply breathtaking, and, since cornell is a bigger school, has a lot more resources and such. plus my mom went there so i have legacy, so its definitely worth applying to. cornells got some funny stories behind it. about 7 years ago, someone put a 50 lb pumpkin on top of the 120 foot clock tower, and still nobody knows how. also, every year the architecture school builds a green dragon, which does battle with a fire-breathing phoenix built by the engineering department, and to announce it, the arts&sciences quad gets tp-ed. so when we went there, it was a few days after the fight, and there was still toiled paper hanging from the trees. pics will be posted shortly.
And finally, Vassar, where i ran into rachel lowenthal (sorry if i spelled your name wrong). Vassar baffled me, because on paper, it had everything i wanted out of a college. it was medium-small, nice theater program, nice campus, and not too isolated. something about it rubbed me the wrong way, so i didnt really like it much.
so thats my college visit. i might run up to nyc to check out nyu and columbia.
also i took pics, so ill post them once i get them from my dad
