Haircuts and bladder stones...

The story of my day. Working at the vet clinic for two weeks, you couldn't honestly hope to completely avoid my lovely vet tales, could you? Hehe... I've really enjoyed returning to work. It was quite a change, getting back in the swing of waking up early and having to seem somewhat competent. Talking to Ellen, Bridget, Trish and crew is a lot of fun and I miss them when I'm up at State. It's really like two different worlds, but they both have great perks. I'm glad I have that chance to have fun at school and be able to come back to my job and my friends here.
Today I said I'd work the late shift for Ellen because it's her birthday. As we were about to close, Dr. Duke asked if I would stay to help with a bladder surgery. It was supposed to be just removing stones, which I've seen several times and doesn't take too horribly long. After removing about 60 cc's of urine from the bladder, we opened it up, and rather than finding stones nicely sitting in the bladder, they were all stuck in the urethra. (By the way, trivia question for the day: Q: Would urine from a bladder being spilled all over inside your incision be a bad thing? A: No. Why? Because urine is sterile :D) Anyway, it took forever to get them all out because we had to force catheters in the peepee and blow a whole butt load of fluids through there to try to force the stones out and then attack from the other side, etc. Whole thing took about an hour, so I didn't get out until about 8:45 and then got to come home and eat dinner and what not. Earlier in the day, I saw a cool surgery where they took the broken head off a femur. My cats came in for their vaccinations, also, so I got to wrestle Cookie and have loads of fun. It was a pretty good day. I got my hair cut back to its lovely middle length at my shoulders, too, so that was nice.
Other fun from this break. My Christmas was fine. G'ma Lucy and G'pa Ray were across from Arizona, so that was good to see them and have old fashioned bonding time. Zach I only saw for one day when he came down with girlfriend Sarah, but then we talked to him on Christmas morning and found out he was all by himself in Oxford cat-sitting. I suggested he bring the cat down so he could open presents and have some real food. He didn't say anything, but surprised us that night and showed up at the door. That was really great because he got to have a little better Christmas, and we got to hang out last night. I miss talking to him, and he really is one of the people that I best relate to in the whole wide world. We think so much alike, and it's good to talk to someone that really understands me. He's back at Oxford now, but that was a nice little visit.
I've had 3 Christmas parties thus far this season: one with Theta Tau (at which I received a giant poster of Britney Spears that Patrick had taped Lane's head to... it was Secret Santa and all the gifts were dirty or very funny, and that was Patrick's brilliant plan since it was "our first Christmas together and I needed something to soothe my heart when I was away." Hehe. He's such a hoot...); then the Schillig party which was quite different Dirty Santa with actually cute and presentable presents; and then the work party I just had. That one was fun because the presents were super nice, and I met Ellen's brother Damian (who also goes to State) and he was cool. I'm getting Ellen's turtles (she was going to give them to Pascal, her other brother, but he didn't want them), and if I have any problems, I'm going to see Damian, since he's an RA at Suttle and can hide them if need be. Hehe, might have to create some problems if there aren't any, if you know what I mean ;D Just kiddin... The turtles should be fun, though.
Going up to State on Tuesday for a New Years party, and then we'll drive to North Carolina for the ski trip. That's going to be so fantastic. I'm going with Casey, Phillip, John Z, Trey, and maybe Josh. Hah. Don't suppose anyone knows who those folks are, but it will be entertaining to say the least. We're meeting up with a few folks from Cincinnati hopefully, so that will compound the greatness. Casey asked me if I would still be ok to go if just the five of us from State were going. I was like, gee, let's think. It's going to be great. I'm looking forward to playing in the snow and being able to have snowball fights again. It will be wonderful to be able to vacation in the cold, but then be able to return to the relatively tropical South.
I think that's my fantabulous update. I'll talk to you folks later. And I guess the next greeting is Happy New Year.
