last night i went down to the boat to see 'the extra action marching band' and it
was AWESOME !!! though after coming home from my ajie's, i was tired,
and i needed to shower, pack, pluck my eyebrows, burn some cds, and get some freaking
rest before i left for ottawa today, i marched on and headed downtown paying my phone
and credit card bill on the way (hooray for paying bills!). i got to the boat at
about 10.30, and ran into leif at the door. we both admired the decore (it must have
looked totally hot in the 70's, and apparently cost 1/2 a million to decorate when it
was first opened then) and then i told leif he could be leighann since she was on the
guestlist. so we both got in free. and after using my metropass which pays for itself
in me going to work, that made the admission the second free thing of my evening. since
the bands booker had said they'd play two sets, trevor made doors 10, and hoped to start
the show at 10.30/ 11. but the band said they would not play two sets, so while doors
were still at 10, the show wasn't until 11.30. so leif went home to shower and come back,
after trevor got us free beer. third free thing of the night. when leif went home i hung
out with trevor and porn rob showed up with amber, and then i met some more of trevor's
friends, and he gave us the tour of the boat which is a chinese karoke joint during the
week and a club on weekends. a lot of people started to show up, and i recognized one guy
from tyson's film that he made in 2040. i also saw miranda from oshawa (for lack of a better
description) and then i found out that she knows trevor, so we were all connected in some
crazy way....mostly through partying and message boards. trevor was informed that the band
needed a constant supply of water (and now after seeing the show it makes complete sense),
so a water table was established......and then the show began.
AND IT WAS INSANE! it was the best thing i've seen in a long lone time. it's a mix of
marching band, drum and bass, and burlesque, as the flag people sorta stip to next to
nothing as the show progresses. plus it's too fucking hot because they all jump and dance
around and just blast the whole show. it was soooo soooo awesome. i don't think i've been
in a better crowd, either. EVERYONE who was there got into it. even the old people who'd
read about it in the toronto star. as soon as they started playing, everyone started dancing
and following as they marched as best they could through the boat. it was just such a good
place to be. no one was in a bad mood, though there may have been a couple people who got
way too drunk. it was SO good. and i will DEFINITELY see them if they ever come back!
i was going to leave at 12.30/45 because i had to work today and go to ottawa tonight, but
there was no way you could leave halfway through a show like that, and they only were playing
until one, so i stayed. and i got the 1.45 bus home, and i was in my room by 2am, which is
pretty good timing. but i still needed to pack and shower and SLEEP! so i played a game with
dave on msn, while i packed the rest of my stuff and i decided to shower this morning and sleep
a little. and even though i did manage to get some sleep, but it was not nearly enough, and now
i feel sorta shitty and groggy, but the show was worth it and i can look forward to a 5 hour
bus ride to ottawa tonight where i can sleep the whole way .... and then i get to see my dave!
