Somehow, somewhere, that makes it official.

After a long period of lethargy-induced absence from what is now being called with ever-reducing facetiousness "the blogosphere", my triumphant return is accompanied by news of my educationally based migration to Montreal.

I moved into Solin Hall today, in the southwestern part of the city on the Lachine Canal. Preliminary investigations of the neighbourhood have revealed such dazzling amenities as Super-C Grocery Store (a linguistic adventure every time), Place St-Henri (a sort of working-man's cafeteria where a full lunch or dinner starts at six dollars and includes coffee, soup, and dessert), and Marché Atwater, an outdoor market specialising in produce but carrying pretty much everything. Further reconnaissance, and possibly photography, is, of course, pending.

Tonight is my first night genuinely living by myself, and limited as my entrance to the lifestyle was, I am undoubtedly enjoying it. After spending the morning moving in with my parents, and the afternoon on a shopping trip to the suburbs with them, I was left on my own for what turned out to be an exciting evening on the proverbial town. Amy and I met and went shopping for staple foods, broke for naps, then reunited along with Laura and Anna Boyle and adventured to the Latin Quarter for pizza and atmosphere. On the metro ride over, I facetiously remarked that "I could draw" the subway map--in other words, it's simple. The guy sitting next to Laura overheard me saying I could draw (author's note: I cannot) and asked me what I drew, which was nothing. This drew us, ultimately, into a conversation about what I could do, which turned out to be classical singing, which led to him (his name was James) taking down my email and telling me that he would call me about doing soundtracks for some kind of films he was working on. While I remain skeptical, the whole situation is still kind of cool.

Speaking of random occupational applicability, the girl in the apartment office held on to my McGill ID today as collateral for a trolley I borrowed to move in. When I went back to get it, she told me she'd noticed I was in music, asked me what my range was, and ultimately asked me to try out for the part of (I am fairly sure I heard this right) a man-eating plant in a musical called Little Shop of Horrors. Investigation on this matter is, again, pending.

My classes start on September fifth; by then I'll be situated, comfortable, have roomates (they move in tomorrow), and generally enjoy a better understanding of what my life is coming to. Until then, I'm very happy to be living here in this high-ceilinged converted chocolate factory. It suits me well.
