I know that he was my one of my father's favorite artists, and I also like his artwork...
But, there's something about seeing his paintings up close and personal that really move me.
Most people are familiar with the Nighthawks painting:
but there are other of his paintings that provoke more feelings in me, like, Morning Sun:
and: New York Movie:
and also, Room in Brooklyn;
what strikes me about his work is not only how he plays with light, but also, what has been described as the "bittersweet isolation," of the
subjects in his painting.
I didn't check out the movie about him at the Art Institute exhibit, but I may go back b/c I enjoyed this exhibit so much.
