A Beautiful Disaster
Buying it was an act of desperation. It was an act of a lot of things not the least being anger, hope, fear, love and loneliness.
It was also a promise.
He sat on the edge of their bed, elbows resting on his knees and stared at it. It was Ruby's wedding dress. The hanger it was on hung from a nail in the wall and it was covered by a protective layer of plastic. He only wished she was as easy to keep close and protect. But that wasn't how this worked. She did her own thing. In her own way, shaded and coloured different from how one would expect.
The dress was full length with a bodice top, and a full but not puffy skirt. Designed like it was from a time period where the dresses were as beautiful and detailed as the women in them. It was a dress fit for a princess. There was also a tiara that shimmered with rubies, though unfortunately he couldn't afford for them to be real. The necklace was of the same scrolling pattern with a single ruby and that one was real. If he closed his eyes he could see it sit just under her throat, and leading the eye down to the dress. The dress that was just as red as the ruby in the necklace.
The dress was a show of his belief that she would come back to him. That he hadn't lost her forever.
Love was the best feeling in the world, but as he sat on their bed which he refused to sleep in and stared at the dress, he realized that it was also the worst.
