Jude could feel him staring. It was just annoying at first, but then it'd become aggrivating. Ruby wasn't around, he wasn't safe and her husband was just staring at him.
"Take a picture, man, or back off," he finally said, not even opening his eyes.
He took the candy cane out of his mouth. "Been there, and all that. Eidetic memory, dude." Apparently Jude was a light sleeper. Like everyone else in the family.
Oh a funny one. Because he hadn't had enough of those.
What did Ruby see in this ... child? He'd have to ask the next time they were alone. However, for now he was sure he wouldn't be getting back to sleep any time soon so he sat up, stretching his legs out in front of him and draping his arms across the back of the couch.
"Tons. But most of it I don't think you could give me." He shrugged. "I didn't actually mean to wake you." Which is true. He was often up at this hour and apparently it was a good thing he usually padded around with out anything but natureal light.
"Can't sleep without Lit'le Red, yeah?" He leaned back a little and nodded. He understood that. He also understood that even though he'd know Ruby longer, he was the newcomer, the guest.
He should have been honored. Mostly, he was just bored.
"Its easier with Ru, but I could crawl in with Ally if I wanted to." Figured that Jude had better get used to the musical beds and people. "Honestly though? I'm usually up around now. Nocturnal-ish."
The only bed Jude intended on being in was Ruby's. And if the guy didn't sleep, he didn't see the big deal about it, but humans... they were special. The sarcasm there was an understood, you see.
"Is it that you don't like me much? That you don't like me because I married Ru? Or that you don't know me and are leaning toward the fact that I'm to much of a smart ass to tolerate." He raised a questioning eyebrow and put the candy cane back into his mouth.
"I don't like anyone that close to Red," he said calmly, pulling a leg up to rest on his knee. He looked extremely comfortable, and fact was, he was. "She doesn't think when it comes to that. And yeah, I don't like you because you married her."
"What is so bad about the fact that I married her?" He played with his wedding ring, he did it a lot when he talked about her. A nervous habit that he'd allowed himself to keep.
He gives a little cat snort. "Learn to take a longer veiw. No matter how you cut it, I'm mortal. You just gotta out wait me." Screw this standing shit. It was his sofa. He padded over to it and settle on the arm, feet in the seat. "Besides, am I really the first person you've ever had to learn to share with?"
He was so buying Ruby and this guy electric blankets. For serious. "I know for a fact that I'm not the first person she's been in love with." He gestured dismissively with the candy cane. "Or was that before you?"
"Nevan died before she did, when she was still human," Jude explained conversationally. No, he was not jealous of Alec. He just... had Ruby longer. Seniority if you will.
And maybe he was a little jealous, in the most simplistic of ways. Ruby didn't like the couch, so she slept in the bed. And Jude slept on the couch.
"It sucks hard core when they die before you." Simply statment of fact. He looked out the window and down at two units of X7s playing some sort of game in the dark five stories down. Bat kids, man, bat kids.
"Look." He gave a half shrug. "I know you're her family. And we both know I'm the only reason you're being kept at a distance. You just have to give me some time." He didn't bother appologizing. It wouldn't change anything.
"Take a picture, man, or back off," he finally said, not even opening his eyes.

And startlingly awake. Bugger.
