Senior Awards Night

May 18, 2005 20:37

Last night was Senior Awards Night at my high school. The whole class of 2005 wasn't in attendance, but there were still quite a few seniors. This type of thing really makes you feel the emotions of graduation. I'm happy to announce I was the recipient of two scholarships. The first one came from an older couple who's parents encouraged them to complete high school and go on to college. The gentlemen who handed me the scholarship mentioned how he went to school during the depression and most of his friends fought in WWII while his parents allowed him (read: allowed him!) to graduate from high school. Don't take high school for granted.

The second award meant a lot to me. It was awarded to me by the family of my late third, fourth, and fifth grade teacher. Her death this last summer came as a shock to all who knew her. I stood on stage listening to the presenter tell me the story of the boy and the starfish. I don't know if it tugged at anyone else's heartstrings, but it sure played a beautiful tune on mine.
