Yes, really. There was a gas explosion in a top floor flat in the town centre - down the Shambles, no less! That little alleyway opposite my work! It's actually quite frightening seeing the pictures (it's still cordoned off) - it's one thing to read 'roof and exterior wall blown off' and another to actually see a picture of it. Apparently a chap got blasted out of the window - top floor so third storey - and has been transferred to the specialist burns unit in Swansea with serious facial burns. Our office building is really old (we have a blue plaque because Oliver Cromwell stayed here in 1649 when it was an inn) and has already got a laundry list of problems so I must admit I'm a little uneasy. There's no way the building manager would pay to have the gas inspected though so we're just going to have to hope for the best!
In other news...
I FINISHED THE BLANKET! I'm so happy with it and can't wait to give it to Zeke's mum. Bring on Christmas! I'm now using the leftover yarn to make an ugly cardigan. Ugly in a good way, it's hard to explain the concept of crochet piece titled 'ugly' - for example, people make ugly blankets. They're often gorgeous, they're just named like that because they use whatever yarn is to hand so often the colours and patterns are a bit all over the place! I guess the best way to describe it is that it means 'not pristine'. Anyway so far I've done 1.8 sleeves, I'm hoping I've got enough yarn to finish it because it turns out it's a right yarn eater!
And speaking of crochet, after a chat about crochet on a Facebook post me and Emma decided that as she's over this part of the country this weekend we should meet up! The last time I saw her was at my wedding 5.5 years ago, now I'll be seeing her in less than half an hour! We're meeting after I finish work and hitting up one of the many local cafes. I didn't want Zeke to have the stress of a houseguest he barely knows with no time to deep clean the house, plus Emma is out to dinner later, so it's the most logical option. I'm so excited!
And speaking of excited, all signs point to a new FOB single today... Of course I'll most probably be out with Em when/if it drops but as the lady herself would say - ho hum!
Pole was great on Wednesday - we're doing a mini routine next week for Halloween so we've got to dress scary and gothic - I have been granted permission to wear a white top which is covered in bloodstains. So tomorrow I'm going to spend a couple of quid on a cheap top from Primark and some fake blood, and on Sunday I'm going to make it look like a murder has happened. I love fancy dress!
S is trying to take the piss with my hours again, asking me to do Friday all day so she can go off on a jolly with her kids. Why not go on her actual day off? Or the weekend? But I'm planning on asking to adjust my hours slightly (start and finish half an hour earlier on Wednesdays) so gotta get them brownie points.
I saw some squirrels on the way into work. One was digging through the leaves at the base of a chestnut tree in the park. Combine that with a chilly wind and bright skies and it was a perfect autumn moment.
I love autumn.
Right better do a bit more work before knock off time! I'm a naughty skiver!
