Gnargh. Where to start? I don't want this to be all committee related, but since that's what I mainly did that will be difficult. And I don't want to make it all focused on people.. but since my relationships with certain people changed so much in the last few weeks that will also be difficult. It's all so intertwined.
*tries to unravel*
Well, basically IV is a tangled web of rehearsals, parties, too much alcohol and not enough sleep. Most people that have been to one know that much at least. Add being a committee member and it gets far far worse. :P
Okay, Friday 20th January - Spent most of the day at the bloody airport running between terminals. Nearly killed me (Spent the next week wondering why it felt like I'd run a marathon - big ow!)
Saturday 21st - Big BBQ after rehearsals which took forever to pack up. When I eventually got to the pub I was buggered and ready to take the first available lift home. So slack of me. Did I also mention it was fucking hot that day??!!?
Sunday 22nd - Headed to camp. I got to drive
adelboy's lovely, lovely car. Mmmmm. For those people who know the sorts of cars I've owned you will understand how sweet it was to drive something that WORKED! Whee! African Safari Party was so cool. I was taken aback by the entrance of a boy in a catsuit.. which apparently made a few people's day (No, not the guy in the catsuit - it was my reaction to him that was apparently gold).
Monday 23rd - Karaoke night. Now, I tried to hide. Really I did. But then I got convinced to sing some Simon and Garfunkel with Matt so I went in. Then somehow it was all headbanging to
_osk_ singing living on a prayer. Whoops. I also got busted on camera. Nasty photo will probably do the rounds later. I think this was also the night we played psychiatrist. Strange game. The psychiatrists were very slow to catch on. I left way before it ended. (Add headbanging injuries to the marathon ow here)
Tuesday 24th - Woke up with evil hangover. Could not face the eggs and bacon. AT ALL. Sculling night. Well, I ran the bar most of the night and I really can't scull to save myself. Somehow, I did do a bit of sculling though and I really, really sucked.
Wednesday 25th - Leftover spag bol for breakfast! Like my second favourite breakfast in the world (favourite is leftover lasagne). Film night.. hrm. I kind of got into a game of never never instead. A very, very strange game of never never where people used the five minute rule whenever *they* hadn't done something.. it resulted in lots and lots of snogging. I am *so* surprised we didn't all get the lurgi.
Thursday 26th - Revue Night. Lots of silly acts and lots of bar wenching. Not that I cared in the slightest as I was having a fantastic time. :)
Friday 27th - More driving of the super cool car as we went back to the city. Moved into
sanguineaccord's place and took up residence on the loungeroom floor.
Saturday 28th - AFRICAN SANCTUS CONCERT!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, that concert was so much fun. I had *so* much fun during that concert. I was dancing on stage and having a ball. Got off stage and ran around like a loony bouncing at people and hugging randomly. I was a very happy chicky. Promptly ran off to run the bar at the pcp. Soon got off the bar and got to dance like a dancey thing for the rest of the night. FUN!
Sunday 29th - Boring AIVCC meeting. I'm sorry - they just don't get fun. Ever. Was randomly invited to play lawn bowls in the evening. That was SO much fun. And it was kind of nice to drop out of IV life for a little bit. I am totally addicted. Lawn bowls rock!
Monday 30th - Had BBQ dinner at Matt's house. Was extremely civilised and friendly. Loved it. Then trundled off to Elysium for cocktails. Somehow managed to get involved in a gin tasting (Thankyou Andy - I love you so much!!!!!) and found my new favourite gin in the entire world, "No. Ten". That stuff is incredible. All fresh botanicals - and you can actually taste it! Somehow also managed to score two free martinis that night. Both with fantastic gin. Mmm. Yum. I am a happy, happy girl.
Tuesday 31st - Academic Dinner. Lovely food and lots of pretty people. I got to sit between Graham Abbott and Tim Sexton, which was most excellent. Forgot to take my free wine glass home - poo.
Wednesday 32nd.. I mean 1st - Did a radio interview with Ewart Shaw that day. That was really weird. He kept asking stuff about me instead of about IV which kind of made me uncomfortable. But I got over it when I eventually found some dinner with
matt_auc later and rushed off back to rehearsal. Too busy to get weirded out. Spent a while at the Archer near the end of the night.
Thursday 2nd - Dragged some people to Thea (the vegetarian tea garden on Gawler place) and got them all hooked. Hehe. That place rocks. Had a really nice walk home. Pub was at the Squatters Arms later in the evening. That was weird because they fed us free food and then put on Live's "Throwing Copper" album REALLY LOUD. We all basically sat around singing while wishing they'd turn it the fuck down. Confusion!
Friday 3rd - Israel in Egypt Concert! This was a huge thing since it was in the Festival Theatre. The turnout was a complete let down given the huge amount of publicity we had done. Still, in the end, what can you do? Personally, I was sick to death of the Handel by the time we sang it and I'd be really happy never to hear it again. Well, okay. Just not for a while though. It has been stuck in my head for nearly three weeks, though. It's *pain* I tell you. Then I got to chat to my mother, since she'd come to see the concert. It was her birthday too. Hmm.. then on to the PCP at the Lion Arts Centre. Fucking excellent. I danced and drank and had a ball. SO much fun.
Saturday 4th - Cricket all afternoon. Now, I hate cricket so I just ran the bar all day. Mmm bar. then we had a pub crawl. That was pretty cool. Lots of free drinks from friendly choristers.. and another big party at the Lion Arts Centre to finish up - only this time we had Perestroika to entertain us. And they ROCK! More insane dancing and partying all night. So much fun I nearly died. :)
Sunday 5th - Recovery BBQ. Um. Beans? Yeah sorry that was me. It's all my fault. Now GET OVER IT!!! For those who know nothing of the beans... the story is this: For the first BBQ I made a bean salad. there were lots of people and it got eaten very quickly. Some people complained there was not enough. So, this BBQ I prepared a bit more and bought lots of dry beans. Then turned tham all into a gigantic bean salad. It was a LOT of salad. And I mean a LOT. It didn't help that
sanguineaccord was sick to death of beans soaking all over his house all weekend before we even got to the BBQ. He kept saying "BEANS!" in a stupid voice repeatedly. Then when we were left with most of them uneaten he paid me out even more. Most people got in on the BEANS! action. I was perfectly clear on exactly what people thought of the beans. Now, what didn't help was getting drunk and promptly spilling the beans all over the backseat of
sanguineaccord's brothers car. (I am so sorry!). If it's any consolation to the rest of you, we have been eating beans in various forms for the whole fucking week to get rid of them. I am sick to death of them.. and the word "BEANS!". Kill me. :P
So, yeah. IV was great. I *actually* had a fantastic time. I am SO happy it's over though!!
Oh yeah and Monday 6th - Went to
adelboy's house for a BBQ with a random spattering of people still left at IV. Was a really fun night. and it just reminded me how much I really love IV and how much I will miss everyone terribly. :(
