"May you live in interesting times." is one curse that I'd rather not have anymore, thanks.
I walked into work at my usual 40 min. early and saw a newbie with the usual GM morning greeter. 'Sweet,' I thought. "Seeing her a few days ago was no fluke." I checked the CSS clipboard to see who was at the other door and if they upped my hours by surprise again, then walked back. I saw a wreath with Asst. Mgr. Chuck's pic in it -- it was a goofy pic. I was confused, and saw what was really a funeral home thing, but with the type being black on a tropical rainforesty deal, I couldn't tell diddly, and knowing him, he could be throwing something nuts. I eventually clocked in and went to the GM door to relieve the morning person. All was well until break. I saw Nan and the Subway mgr shopping earlier, so I figured she might be there. She was.
I asked her for details, and right now I'm not feeling all right. Tuesday, I didn't see him with Night Mgr. Dawn (or was it Donna?) I thought it was very odd. Chuck rarely misses a day. *sighs* I know now how odd it was. Since he has been 3rd shift for the last week or two, his daughter came home from school, and decided to let him sleep til dinner. When she went to wake him up... you know the result. Word is he had a heart attack in his sleep. Work found out yesterday, and fell. Crying, nobody ate at Subway, the picture, yadda.
Chuck was an odd egg. He drove a junker, almost had more real teeth than me, and he was a real card on the walkie talkie after Alice, who was recently ousted as Store Mgr., left for the day. I didn't respect or really listened to his antics until that day in the summer when I accidentally ran the cart pusher across a truck's bumper. I had to take a drug test >_<, and Chuck was chosen to accompany me. He had a CD of AC/DC in his player, bought me a bottle of Dr., and made waiting to take the test a lot of fun. He joked with me, cut up, and even said that he was a screw up -- that if he messed up once more, he was gone. He was still his own jokey self, looked like a hick, but since then, I laughed when he joked around, especially on the walkie.
I set that aside, knowing work came first, and that I can let go now. The newbie didn't want to leave the door, even to eat. Odd to me, but whatever. She's a nice woman. She also could handle herself solo, AND WITNESSED A LP/police talking to a lady (thief?). I can like her. I BS'ed with the pushers du jour after she left, shopped (TWO MORE PLANESWALKERS, YAY), and got a sub. Now, tho, I'm going to go.
