Now hear me out...I too thought that, that first Clana scene came out of thin air, but after finishing the episode, I think it was a smart way to show that things aren't quite right. And it is from here that the tip-offs start to pile up:
1.)The way Clark was speaking. The slightly lower octave and the fact that it sounded like they knocked a whole lot of points off Clark's IQ (Can't have Tom walking around going "Me am Bizarro". I'm glad they found a way to class up that aspect of Bizarro).
2.)Understanding spoken Kryptonian and jotting it down in Kryptonian in a way that was as second nature as breathing.
3.)Since when would Clark refer to Brainiac by it's full name, Brain Interactive Construct?
4.)He flew up the stairwell to save Chloe and Jimmy. But I love how they edited it so that it was easily brushed off as a super leap if one wasn't paying extremely close attention.
And the thing that really got me before they even distorted his face...
5.)How long has it been since the real Clark has actually strung together the words "I love you" when talking to Lana? Every time Lana has brought the subject up lately, Clark has danced around it and then dropped it like a hot potato.
So I applaud Smallville for surprising us with this one. As the person who wrote the review right before this one said, some small part of my brain knew that things weren't quite right as I was watching but it wasn't until the very end that all the pieces fell into place. And that first awkward Clana scene should be properly renamed a pretty gosh darn interesting...Bizana scene.
