ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
GENERAL
[Name:] Pearl Fey-Armando
[Age:] 16
[Gender:] Female
[Marital Status:] Too young!!
[Sexuality:] Straight, and still believing in the romance, though after Iris and Phoenix split it took a strong hit. It now feels a bit forced, even to her, but she doesn't feel like she can abandon it.
[Occupation:] High School Student!
CONNECTIONS
[Family:] Diego Armando: Her adoptive father. (Though she still calls him Daddy at times, when no one is watching.) Since adopting her as an 11-year-old, their relationship remains strong. He’s been a guide to her and taught her much about people and the world, and his personality and presence have influenced her a lot. She pushes herself very hard in order to impress him. Recently, she acquired the paperwork to hyphenate his last name to hers from the library and surprised him with it, and the formal change has just gone through. Though since she’s become a teenager, she’s become a little less likely to just spend time with him, she rarely rebels excessively. (This may be partly because she knows he won’t put up with it.)
Maya Fey: Her beloved cousin, and master of the Kurain Channeling school. Maya’s been busy lately with Kurain business, and she’s been busy too, with school things, but when the two of them do get to spend time together, it’s something she treasures a lot. She still looks up to Maya’s strength of spirit, and still respectfully calls her “Mystic Maya,” and whenever Maya calls for her help for any reason, she goes immediately, whatever the time or place. She does it out of duty to the school and her family, of course, but also out of love for her cousin, who will always be her best friend.
Iris: Her sister! Since discovering that they are related, the two of them have had some rocky times getting used to the idea, but nowadays she spends a lot of quality time with Iris, in the summer she spends the break training at Hazakura and she goes there at least once a month to brush up, so as to keep herself from falling too far behind. The two of them usually get along fairly well, but Iris often has to deal with her frustration and hormonal mood swings. They don’t often fight despite that, and when they do, they always make up. She is sensitive never to bring Phoenix up around Iris.
[Friends:] Phoenix Wright: If you were to ask her to explain how Phoenix has changed, or why, she would be hard-pressed to give you an answer, because though she remembers what he was like when he was a lawyer, she's known him as he is now for much longer. In addition, there is some confusion as to whether the changes were because of his parting from Iris or the cause of it. (She is likelier to think it's the former, actually) In any case, her attitude toward him remains unchanged, though she was very angry at him just after the breakup, and didn’t talk to him for a while. (Trucy set her straight about Phoenix’s difficulties, though she couldn’t quite explain why the two of them parted either) She has long since forgiven him for lying to her about his disbarment, though she still remembers that he did and brings it up from time to time. She has lately taken it upon herself to mother him a little, as well, and he’s probably become more than acquainted with her disapproving looks. In the end, though she doesn’t quite comprehend the radical change that Phoenix has gone through, she understands that he is frustrated and sad at times, so she does her best to cheer him up.
Trucy Wright: Pearl's close friend! Trucy is fun to be around and energetic, and Pearl likes her best out of all the people her age she knows. The two of them see each other frequently, and get up to all sorts of age-appropriate and harmless shenanigans. Lately they’ve begun to have deep and complex talks about life and love and so on during sleepovers, though they quickly move on and change the subject to something else when it gets too uncomfortable.
Bikini: Iris’ surrogate mother treats Pearl in a very grandmotherly way, and she likes being around her just because she’s so kind and sweet. She worries about Bikini’s health, but she just seems to be plugging along, so she pays it little mind.
Cody Hackins: She’s kept in sporatic touch with Cody, since he goes to the same school as Trucy, and the two of them get along well.
[Enemies:] Pearl doesn't have anything that could be considered an enemy, though she doesn't get along with most of her classmates, some of whom ostracize her and consider her an oddity.
[Other:] Klavier Gavin: She vaguely remembers having met him once or twice, and Trucy seems to like the band he’s in, but she doesn’t really like their music much.
Daryan Crescend: She remembers when he used to comment in her journal, and recognized him in the pictures she’s seen of the Gavinners, (he has very singular hair) but she doesn’t remember much about him other than that.
Apollo Justice: A girl always remembers her first crush, and Apollo was exactly that for Pearl. She hasn’t seen him in a while, but she’ll always remember his smile and his warm hand in hers.
Wocky Kitaki: She knows what Wocky’s family does now, and is aware of the things he gets himself mixed up in. She remembers having met him and still sees him around at times, but she tries not to speak too much with him, or voice her disapproval for his way of life. She treats him cordially and distantly, and as politely as she can. Her father taught her this way of dealing with members of organized crime from his experiences with the Cadaverini family.
CHARACTER
[General personality:] Pearl has changed since childhood, but not much. She's still solemn and serious at times, but those who know her can quickly bring her enthusiasm out. She has a well of sympathy and strength that is very deep, and seems to be wise beyond her years in otherworldly matters. She’s prone to mood swings, and her temper has only gotten quicker with the onset of puberty, but after she’s run off and cooled down, she comes back contrite and makes it up to whoever. She doesn’t get mad about the same things, either. She rarely hits anymore, since Diego has largely trained that out of her, though she does tend to run when she is upset, whether out or just into her room.
Her faith in the depth of true romantic love was shaken with the breakup of what had become her bellwether couple, Iris and Phoenix, and it’s never quite recovered. She clings to the belief that true love is possible, but she is well aware by now that it doesn’t always work out. She secretly still believes that Phoenix and Iris are each others’ one and only special someone. In all, she’s confused about the whole matter, and though her father’s tried to explain it to her, all it’s done is made her further upset. Nowadays she tends to spend less time being exuberant about love and more time being contemplative of it, when she observes it.
Even years in public school were not enough to catch her up to the world at large, so there are still some things that are beyond her, such as popular culture, which she is only aware of in a marginal way, and just enough so as not to make her a social pariah. As far as school goes, her best subjects are Math and Gym, and her worst are Creative Writing and English, as her composition skills are not quite up to par. In her free time, she gets extra credits by helping out with the Japanese class, since she’s fluent. Her big extracurricular activity is track, and she’s been on the junior varsity team since 8th grade. Last year, they went to state, and her team won the relay race, though she placed fourth in her only single event, the hundred-yard-dash. She tends to combine meditation with running during track season, which helps her not to lose her skills as a medium.
Her days are packed with activity, and sometimes it’s tough for her to find time for it all. Sleep gets sacrificed at times, which is the dutiful Japanese way to do things. With school, track, friends, and of course, her medium training, it’s likely that she’s going to have some trouble keeping everything balanced. On that note, she has become something of a coffee addict, though nothing on the level of Diego.
[Appearance:] Pearl is now a fairly lanky high school student, she keeps her bangs long, and her hair just past shoulder-length, (any longer and it would get cumbersome, unfortunately) though most of it fits up into the loops. She superficially resembles Mia in a lot of ways, though her chest size is not one of them. She wears a magatama on a choker around her neck, and still wears traditional Kurain clothing, even to school, despite the odd looks it garners her. For track, she has a few sets of workout clothes, running shorts, sports bras, shoes, et cetera. Outside that, she does own a fair amount of normal street clothes, at the behest of her father, but she prefers to wear traditional clothes as they feel more ‘her.’
[Background:] Pearl was only a child when the events that introduced her to Phoenix took place, and since then much in her life has changed completely. After the sad resolution of State v. Iris and Phoenix’s disbarment, many of the people and places around her altered virtually overnight. She was introduced to Diego, who she later became very close to and who adopted her at age 11. She got used to the idea of having a sister in Iris, became acquainted with her close friend Trucy, and watched Mister Nick become practically a different person before her eyes.
She struggled on and off with her relationship with her mother, Morgan, who was on death row for her involvement in several murders. Though she still loved her, she came to realize that Morgan did not genuinely believe what she had done was wrong, and therefore was not sincerely penitent for her crimes. She was reassured repeatedly and fervently by her father, Iris, and even (once or twice) Phoenix, that despite her mother doing it for her sake, there was nothing she could have done to prevent these tragedies. When she was 13, her mother was put to death. During their final visit, she reassured Morgan that she would always love her, but then haltingly told her that since she could not trust her, she would never allow her to be channeled after her death. She was greeted with a silence that continued until she left. Morgan’s ashes were put in an unmarked grave far from the branch family tomb, and even further from the main family tomb. Her funerary tablet is stored in the side room near the winding way, and periodically falls over, though no wind is present in the room. Pearl does make offerings to it, as she can’t stand the idea of her mother starving in the other world.
Three years later, she rarely thinks of her mother, as she has more corporeal concerns. After settling in to the father and daughter life with Diego, she expressed a desire to go to a real school, when her self-teaching and Diego’s home-schooling didn’t really feel like enough. She tested one grade-level lower than her age, and took remedial English classes for a while. It was very difficult for her to get used to being in school, and if it weren’t for Trucy, she would have been a complete loner. When she was scouted for track, she found her niche and now that she’s entered high school, she feels much more comfortable. Looking forward, she feels that with her mother’s death she’s free from her duty to the Kurain school beyond what Mystic Maya asks of her, and so she has a clear horizon in front of her as far as what she will do with her life. She is not unduly concerning herself with it at the moment.
