Takes place the first day of Kurain visit.
Trucy: *A few hours after having arrived in Kurain, Trucy has calmed down considerably, though she's noticeably quieter than usual. After dinner, she and Pearl take their dessert - fresh watermelon slices - and find a spot along the winding way to eat them while the adults of the house have more serious talk.*
Trucy: *Trucy nibbles her fruit quietly for a while, until she finally wipes a seed off the corner of her mouth and looks to Pearl.* Daddy said you and Maya used to help him when he was a lawyer.
Pearl: *licks the water off her lips and spits a seed into a cup* Yes! It was lots of fun except when it was really scary.
Trucy: Scary? *Trucy frowns down at her hands.* So you must have fought a lot of bad guys, right? *Suddenly she looks up in alarm* Did you ever get electrocuted like Maya!?
Pearl: Oh!! No!! I just mostly channeled Mystic Mia to help... Bad stuff didn't usually happen to me, it usually happened to Mystic Maya... *she takes another bite of watermelon*
Trucy: Like...getting zapped? And put in jail? *Trucy frowns harder.* What other bad stuff?
Pearl: One time a man took her away and locked her up for days. *she looks troubled* It was bad.
Trucy: Ohh... Did... *She puts her watermelon down so she can give Pearl her full attention.* Did other bad stuff happen to Daddy, too?
Pearl: Um, he fell off a big bridge, *she nods* the one at Iris' house, and got sick... And one time a mean lady whipped him so many times he went unconscious.
Trucy: *Trucy shivers a little at the thought.* I'm glad he's not a lawyer anymore... That's just stupid.
Pearl: You are? *she looks a bit distant and puts her watermelon rind down on a plate* Well, it wasn't all scary. Sometimes it was fun. Sometimes he helped people.
Trucy: But all those bad people came after him! *Trucy squirms in aggitation.* They tried to hurt Daddy, and they did hurt Mr. Edgeyworth, and Iris, and Mr. Armando... They could have hurt you too, Pearl!
Pearl: ... *she frowns* Yeah, it's scary... *she looks off, putting her hands between her knees* But usually those people stay in jail... *she sucks on her thumb for a moment but then puts her hand back between her knees*
Trucy: But what if they get out again? I don't want everyone to get hurt again... *Trucy frowns at the ground for a while, and abruptly her eyes become very intense.* Maybe I should learn karate.
Pearl: Isn't magic enough?
Trucy: Well magic is great, but it won't protect you from bad guys! You need a baton for that! *Trucy swings her hands for emphasis.* You gotta fight back! That's what Daddy does!
Pearl: Maybe karate would be good then... I don't know... If I'm in trouble I just summon someone who can fight better. *picks up a new piece of watermelon*
Trucy: Huh? Oh, right. *Trucy shakes her head dismissively.* I guess I could just get a bigger baton, but maybe it would be better just to learn how to fight! I bet Woxxor could teach me. He seems like he fights a lot, right?
Pearl: Yeah, he does! I bet he's really strong. *she pauses and settles a bit* I think maybe it's better just to run away, though.
Trucy: Run away? No! *Trucy balls her fist.* Mr. Apollo and I ran away, but then the bad guy came back anyway! You gotta punch those guys to make them go away! Just like Maya beat up the other one, right? *She punches her fist* Some people need punching!
Pearl: Yeah, that's true... I guess. But um, that's dangerous too, that's how my daddy got hurt. *looks thoughtful* I wish they didn't have to...
Trucy: Maybe Mr. Armando just had to hit harder. *Trucy nods knowingly* I had to hit the bad guy in our apartment pretty hard.
Pearl: You did? Tell me about it!
Trucy: Oh! Didn't I? *Trucy turns, crossing her legs so she's facing Pearl squarely.* A bad guy in a costume broke through Daddy's window and tried to hit him with a rock! But I ran at him and hit him with my baton, and he fell right out the window!
Pearl: Wow! Were you very scared? I think I would be...
Trucy: I wasn't at first. *Trucy taps her chin thoughtfully* I was really mad! But then later, I was scared. When I went to see Mr. Edgeworth and Miss Andrews... It made me think about what if Daddy ended up like that... *She ducks her head a little.*
Pearl: Did they look hurt? *she looks sympathetic* I'm sorry. But all that bad stuff happened to Mister Nick before, and he never looked hurt to me. He still smiled a lot.
Trucy: Yeah... I think Mr. Edgeyworth was really hurt... *Trucy's shoulders hunch* He had bandages all over. I hope he gets better soon. Poor Pess must be lonely without him...
Pearl: That's very sad... *her brows knit* But who's Pess?
Trucy: *Trucy looks shocked* You haven't met Pess? He's Mr. Edgeyworth's dog!
Pearl: Oh, no, I've never been to Mister Edgeworth's home before. Is he a nice dog?
Trucy: He's a great dog! He can go through tunnels and jump bars and everything! *Trucy picks her watermelon back up for another bite.* I hope someone's taking care of him.
Pearl: *lifts her hand to Trucy's shoulder and pats her* I'm sure he's all right. And Mister Edgeworth will be all right, too. Bad things happen, but it gets better, right?
Trucy: I hope so. I don't want anyone to be hurt... *She takes a big bite, getting watermelon juice all over her cheeks.*
Pearl: *looks out into the courtyard quietly* No one does... But sometimes it happens. We just have to hope for the best, right?
Trucy: Right. *Trucy nods determinedly.* And we have to punch bad guys.
Pearl: *smiles* Yeah. I'm so happy you saved Mister Nick. You're so brave.
Trucy: Thank you! *Trucy frowns.* But...I have to be stronger, too. I didn't mean to cry in front of Iris... I'm not a baby anymore.
Pearl: I'm not a baby, and I cry sometimes! Crying is okay if it's really really scary, I think!
Trucy: I still don't want to. I don't like it, and neither does Daddy. So I won't. *She wipes her cheeks and mouth.* I'll be strong like Mr. Apollo.
Pearl: Oh? *glances over* Mister Apollo is very strong...? You said he and you ran away.
Trucy: Yeah...I would have liked to see him punch someone. But he did steal a car for me. *Trucy finishes what's left of her watermelon.* That's pretty cool, too.
Pearl: *gasps* He stole a car! That's not very good...
Trucy: He gave it back, though. So that's okay. It was just a temporary stealing.
Pearl: Oh... *looks a bit more settled* So he borrowed it... That's all right then.
Trucy: See? He's really cool. He's the best babysitter. *She looks thoughtful* But maybe not the best cook.
Pearl: That's okay, not everybody is good at cooking. *gives a small smile* I should finish the book he said I should read...
Trucy: What kinda book?
Pearl: It's called The Westing Game. It's about a mystery with clues and stuff. I was reading it when the man came, but... *she trails off* Well, the book is full of some scary stuff, too, so I stopped reading it.
Trucy: Ohh, a mystery. I guess that sounds cool. But I wouldn't want to read scary books, either.
Pearl: Well, it's like real life... *swings her leg* Scary stuff happens, but maybe in the end everything will be okay?
Trucy: *Trucy hums thoughtfully* Maybe you should ask Mr. Apollo to be your reading buddy. Then you can read together, and the scary parts won't be as scary anymore.
Pearl: *presses her hand to her face, blushing* Oh, um... I would like that, but he lives very far away. Not like you and Mister Wockster.
Trucy: Yeah, but I bet he'd come over if you needed a babysitter. *she grins* He's certified, after all.
Pearl: Oh? Well, usually I'm all right on my own... And Mystic Maya or father is always around. *she runs her fingers through her bangs, looking thoughtful*
Trucy: Then...next time you come visit, we'll go see Mr. Apollo together! *Trucy claps her hands* And eat donuts!
Pearl: Donuts? *beams* That sounds very good! I'd like that...
Trucy: Good! I'll tell Daddy you have to come over soon. Maybe Woxxor will come, too. *She giggles*
Pearl: You think so? I'd like to come over and see Twitch, too.
Trucy: Ooh, she'll be glad to see you, too! I can almost make her disappear now.
Pearl: Really? You have to show me!! *claps*
Trucy: Okay! I will! She's a great performer. *Trucy licks her fingers and then looks around.* Should we go back inside now?
Pearl: Yes, I think so. I need to wash my hands.
Trucy: *Trucy sucks on her thumb for a moment, getting the juice off* Why?
Pearl: They're all sticky~ *she wrinkles her nose and waves watermelon-sticky hands at Trucy*
Trucy: Oh, I guess mine are too. *Trucy claps her hands to Pearl's and giggles*
Pearl: *wiggles her fingers* It feels weird!!
Trucy: Ewww, you're all sticky! *she tries to stretch her fingers* Your hands are bigger than mine!
Pearl: That's cause I'm older!
Trucy: That's not fair! *She's smiling as she says it, though* I better grow up fast!
Pearl: Well. *seriously* You can't catch up. I'll always be older.
Trucy: *Trucy eyes her* Are you sure?
Pearl: *nods* Uh huh. Well. You do have magic... So I guess that's up to you!
Trucy: That would be a pretty good trick, huh? *Trucy lowers her hands.* I'll be able to do it someday for sure!
Pearl: *beams* That will be great! I can't wait!
Trucy: It'll be tricky... *Trucy taps her chin thoughtfully, which reminds her of how sticky they are, and she giggles again as she stands up.* Okay, let's go wash up before we get everything sticky!
Pearl: All right! *stands up, looking a bit mischievous* Race you! *taps Trucy on the nose and runs - but slightly slower than she normally would, so that Trucy can keep up, at least*
Trucy: Hey! No fair! *Trucy laughs and quickly gives chase*
