So I got my pretty pretty dress back from the cleaner's yesterday. The one I'm wearing to my friend's black tie wedding in Manhattan tomorrow. Then last night I dragged Kevin to the mall with me (none of my female friends were available, and I knew I'd need advice) to accessorize. I've worn this dress once before, three years ago, for a graduation gala dinner or some such nonsense, and I believe I borrowed the accessories I needed from the 6 girls I lived with back then.
Anyway, we bought $15 shoes from Payless (silver, to go with the sparkly dress) and then I found a $50 beautiful bright silver necklace on sale for half-off at Filene's, and a pair of silver hoops (I strangely do not own any hoop earrings) that were wicked cheap ($10 I believe). Then, I splurged and spent $35 on a cute 3/4-length sleeve gauzy white cardigan so that I'm not all bare-shouldered and inappropriate in church (it's a Catholic wedding). I think Kevin might have been getting frustrated because we searched for the perfect cardigan all over Filene's (department store) and he kept holding up suggestions, and I kept vetoing them. He totally thought I was being too picky. But then we went to this other store I'd never been in, and when we found this cardigan, he was so excited about it. He said "you'll definitely wear that one again, too--it's so cute!" so I felt vindicated. :)
The wedding is tomorrow at 3:30 pm. This girl is just the sweetest thing. She was there for me during that whole incident with the sleazy older guy when I was a dumb freshman in college just over a break-up with my high school love. I held her hand when her heart was broken a year later. Then we sort of drifted our own ways, into our own circles of friends. But we had this Sunday brunch thing. Every Sunday at around noon or whenever we had both dragged ourselves out of bed, we'd hop in her car and drive to the Chef's Hat just on the edge of town for a HUGE brunch. The waitresses knew us and cooed over us. It pretty much kicked ass.
Anyway, G's parents are loaded, so they're giving her what will probably be the fanciest wedding I'll ever be within blocks of, much less INVITED TO. :) While that's not really my thing (I'm much more of a small, laidback, barefoot-on-the-beach wedding kind of gal) I think that we will really enjoy ourselves. I'm looking forward to seeing her family again, and seeing some old friends, as well as hopefully meeting some new people.
Aw yeah!
