New York, New York

So I do not have enough time to finish my tribute to my family. It will have to wait for another day I guess.

This weekend Kevin and I are making a quick trip to New York City, to see a bunch of friends. One of the vows we made to ourselves upon returning to Boston and life in the US from our Big Adventure, was that we would get away from Boston on the weekends. Go out and see friends. Or go out and hike/camp. So this weekend we're starting to make good on that vow.

We'll leave Cambridge at 4:30--I'm going straight from work to the subway to Harvard Square where Kevin will be awaiting me in the Silver Bullet to hit the road. We're driving to Westport, CT tonight--about 3 hours from here and an hour or so from Manhattan. Kevin's grandfather lives there. A phenomenal man. We're bringing groceries, and we'll cook him up a fancy dinner and just spend the evening chilling with him.

On Saturday morning we'll catch a 9 am train into New York. It's just so much easier than driving in there and having to worry about parking (and possibly getting towed) in Manhattan. We should get into Grand Central Station around 10ish. Then the fun starts. We'll be seeing so many friends. Among them:

1) My friend Ela who's getting married in June in New York, and hopefully we'll get to meet her fiance too, as I've not met him. In fact, I haven't seen her in THREE YEARS, since we graduated!

2) My friend CK who works for my same company, but in a very distant way, and I haven't seen her in -- get this -- FIVE YEARS! It should be awesome.

3) Our friend Cere who is a third-year medical student, doing rotation after rotation at this point, so whether we'll see him or not is a toss-up, but we missed him when we went through there a couple of months ago, and I'd really really like to see him.

There are a bunch of others too. We'll stay with our friend Ronin on the Upper West Side. She's got an awesome flat that her parents own and she "rents" (she's a kindergarten teacher, and I think they give her a pretty good deal) and takes care of for them. She'll only be living there for 3 more weeks though--then she's off to start a post-bac program in pre-med studies, so she can eventually go to medical school. I'm so excited for her.

We don't have much of an agenda. Many meetings with friends. I'm hoping we'll go dancing. And I want to visit City Island and show Kevin where my mom grew up.

And visit my grandfather's grave.

I'm so excited!
