I'm confused, how is there an Artist check-in before the Artist claiming?

After the first round, when we had a large attrition rate wrt artists who signed up but weren't around in February to claim a fic, we instituted a pre-claim check-in just so we could get a count of how many of the artists actually remembered they'd signed up for the Small Fandoms Bang and were still able to participate. It's partly so artists get a reminder, and also so I don't have a heart attack when only a dozen artists claim fic. *g*
