Blinking sleepily, Clark stretches and then reaches across the bed for Lex, only to find cold sheets. “Lex?”

There is no answer, and Clark activates his x-ray vision, quickly scanning the penthouse in search of his husband. A flash of disappointment zings through him. He’d thought they were going to spend Easter together. Clark looks at Lex’s side of the bed unhappily.

As he does he spies the corner of something red sticking out from under Lex’s pillow. Curious, he pulls it out. It’s an envelope and the outside has his name written on it. Flipping it over, Clark smiles at the brightly colored Easter egg sticker holding the envelop closed. Carefully, so the sticker doesn’t rip, Clark pries it apart, and pulls out the paper inside.

This might seem a strange notion,
But to you I feel a great devotion
Before we meet, put yourself in motion,
to find an egg in the ocean.

A big grin crosses Clark’s face, and he spins into his Superman costume. Grabbing a couple of pastries the cook had left out, Clark takes to the air.

It isn’t until two seconds later, as he reaches the western boundaries of Kansas, that he realizes he doesn’t know which ocean. The thought makes his grin bigger. The hunt is on.

Two minutes later, after searching the Pacific, Clark finally finds it in the depths of the Indian Ocean. As he rises to the surface, Clark cracks open the second egg and takes out the perfectly dry piece of paper.

These rhymes might be among the crudest,
But my love for you will not be harnessed.
To find the next egg you must be the ablest
As you fly to the top of Mount Everest.

Laughing loudly, Clark angles himself northward bound, and flies to the top of the highest point on the planet. He quickly finds this egg, and from there he is led on a merry chase that covers the globe - the depths of the Amazon rain forest; inside one of Hawaii’s active volcanos, Kilauea; inside a lizard den in Australia’s Outback; and in two hundred feet of ice at the North Pole.

Leaving the North Pole, Clark slants himself up and scans, until he finds the egg orbiting the Earth. The last an final egg, has him landing on the moon. Or, almost landing. Not wanting to disturb the historic footprints around the first lunar landing site, Clark hovers as he leans over to pick up the egg.

I know I’ve had you on the run,
But this simple hunt is almost done.
My hope is that I gave you some fun,
If so, please come meet me where we begun.

The smile on Clark’s face had never really gone away, but at the final note, it still manages to get even wider. Putting on a burst of speed, Clark heads straight for Smallville, and the bridge.

Long before he gets there, he sees Lex leaning on the railing. Lightly touching down a few feet away, Clark whirls into his everyday clothes. Lex turns toward him, but Clark doesn’t give him a chance to say anything before he’s moving forward and enveloping Lex into a hug.

“I take it you had fun, then?”

Clark brushes a kiss against Lex’s lips. “I had a blast. I can’t believe you did all of that for me. Not only making the eggs that fit all those environments, but the places you put them... How did you do that. How’d you get an egg so far into the ice, or in orbit?”

Lex keeps his face almost impassive, but Clark can tell by the twinkling in his eyes that Lex is happy with his response. “Sorry, Clark. Trade secret.”

“I figured you’d say something like that. What made you do it, though. Giving me an Easter Egg Hunt?”

Shrugging, Lex takes Clark by the hand and starts leading him around the bridge and down the embankment. “I remembered how you talked about the hunts your parents had done for you when you were growing up, how they’d make it challenging for you. Since your abilities have grown significantly since then, I thought anything I did should be correspondingly more difficult.”

Pulling Lex into another kiss, Clark releases him and presses their foreheads together. “You’re amazing. Thank you, Lex. This is the best Easter I’ve had since I was a kid.”

Looking around at the edge of the river where they first met, Clark sees the picnic Lex has laid out. Evidently, the celebrating isn’t over yet, and Clark aims to enjoy every second with his husband. Just as he always does.
