After his breathing and heart rate had finally returned to normal, Lex looked over at the man lying prostrate at his side. “All these years. I wish I’d known.”
A bleary, green eye opened briefly, then collapsed shut. “Known what?”
A hundred answers raced through Lex’s head. The taste of your skin. That sex leaves you weaker than kryptonite. That you still care. He simply smiled and replied, “How to get you out of that god awful suit.”
The suit in question was strewn across a chair beside the rug on which they were sprawled. His own outfit was neatly folded on another chair closer to the door. He’d refused to let Clark touch it, afraid the alien would rip it in his excitement.
Clark smiled lazily. “It was the suit. I never thought I’d see you wearing that. Except for way back when we first met.” He paused. “I’ve missed those days so much.”
Lex looked over at the iconic costume. “That’s all it took? Me wearing the red and white?”
“I can’t explain it, Lex. But until three hours ago, I would have said that you wearing something like that was beneath your dignity. But I could tell - you weren’t doing it for publicity or corporate profit. You did it because it made you happy. Which meant I was wrong about you.”
Lex was silent, not sure how to respond. Clark hadn’t always been wrong. After decades of abuse at Lionel’s hands, he had become paranoid and sometimes irrational. Not until Lionel’s death had he begun the long process of recovery. It had taken him years to relearn how to enjoy himself, how to lower his guard. Now it seemed he had a second chance. He smiled and stroked Clark's golden skin.
“Looks like Santa finally heard my wish.”
