Does anyone know what the thinking is behind the Police tactic of penning in Demonstrators and not allowing anyone to leave?
This week at the G20 protest near Bank is the second time I've seen it used (the first was a few years back in Oxford Circus).
Obviously it means that the protestors can't cause more disruption elsewhere, but it does seem a bit bad that innocent people (non-demonstrators, children) can end up stuck and in distress. It all seems rather heavy handed and a little provocative. It could be that it's indirectly responsible for a death this time too.
Why is it done? Good Idea? Bad Idea? I'm not sure although the thought makes me uncomfortable, I'd love to hear peoples thoughts.
