It's a quiet night and I have my old friend Brian Eno playing in the background to make the evening work experience good and mellow. I'm floating through the myriad tasks, one by one, trying to get caught up. It feels like a common theme of late, the striving to stay caught up, but somehow I'm managing to be a lot less stressed out about it all. I've already bored a bunch of people with the why of my relaxation around ten-thousand tasks, so I don't intend to do the same again here. Let's just skip to the end and say that technology is my friend.
Jasmine lost her job today, an event for which I have mixed feelings, mostly on the good side. She'd been working that gig for the last year and a half or more, and while the money was halfway decent, and she certainly seemed less stressed in general than in previous serving gigs, it was definitely time for a change. As with all her restaurant jobs, I found myself listening to more and more bizarre statements about the owners, who towards the end and especially in the last couple of weeks were acting like a bunch of grade A toolbags. I know I'm a protective and loyal husband, but fuck people that don't get the value of their employees. Jasmine was probably the only person in their employee that had lasted that long, and lord knows her winning smile and ability to sell loads of alcohol probably made them a metric ass-ton of cash. I wouldn't be sad if you boycotted the Steelhead Diner for a while. I know I will.
On the other side of the equation, we're going to be really strapped for money for a while until Jasmine gets another gig. We'd both prefer that she start working in her chosen profession, which is print and web design; yet while she's had some freelance work in the last couple of years, it hasn't been a ton, and she's still trying to finish up school too. The waiting of tables was a way for us to keep the money coming in, especially with new home madness. It would be awesome if she never had to go back to serving, and this is the last quarter of school in theory. I think we may just try and tough it out. Here's hoping my friends are interested in hanging out in front of the TV or with a game. Two Buck Chuck for all.
I'm a couple of classes into kajukenbo (which all my friends have taken to calling Kajagoogoo) and I'm really, really enjoying it. It's amazing how fast the class is letting a little old white belt like me get into it. I've already done some sparring, hand to hand, learned a bunch of the first form, and worked my ass off generally. I think this whole deal is going to help a ton with my focus, my body, and most importantly my tasty brain--especially through the Seattle Winter.
