Going into Thanksgiving Break...
...and we have just under 3 weeks of school left after we get back(!)...
We're leaving the dorms for the term, as the whole building is closed down for the week. So, as I get all of myt hings together and look at the dorky list they left on our door (like a laundry list of things to do before we leave), I think of something my host mom told me...
My year mates and I were going on 修学旅行 (school field trip type thing, but over a few days-to-a-week rather than a few hours), so I got ready the night before, packing bags and such. So, there I was, thinking to myself, "Mm, I usually clean up my room on Fridays, but I won't be back until Sunday, so I should clean my room now..." so I did.
As I was on my way downstairs with the vacuum, my host mom favored me with a pleased, small smile...she commented, "You know, that was a very good thing to do, cleaning your room." I must have blushed or looked surprised, because she explained herself after that... "You never know if something could go wrong on your trip, and someone might have to enter your room. It's always best to leave it presentable."
So, getting ready to go home for the weekend, I'm thinking of that, and one of the lists they have on our door... "Leave your room clean." is right up there with "unplug everything."
