K so I haven't written anything since last May and that's pretty sad. A lot of people haven't heard from me at all and began to think that I was somehow "gone" and that Justin Timberlake would "bring me back," but I've always been here and I'm just busy. I've gone through a lot of changes and difficulties since that entry. I should probably get some of you caught up on that.
- When I got home from school last year, I found out I had failed out of school because I was on the edge and then got sick the night before an exam and the teacher didn't accept my makeup assignment
- Pauline broke up with me shortly after our 1 year anniversary (my friends tease me, saying it was because the song I wrote her was that awful)
- I got a summer job at The Home Depot (off Rt. 10 in East Hanover)- This was a really important experience because I felt accepted by a group of men as one of them, and it doesn't get much more macho than a Home Depot man
- Went do DahnMuDo school where I spent 10 days learning a new martial art that focuses on meditation and healing, which is pretty much what I need
- Through negotiations and hard work over the phone, I worked out an arrangement to get back into school. I can register under the school of Architecture for a year and take any classes I want, provided I fix my GPA (retake that History course I got sick for second semester) and get into another major by the end of the year
So this year my room mate and I made a ton of new friends. We still live on the substance-free living floor, and this year we've been joined by a community of people who actually don't want to drink (imagine that!). Since we're all in it together, we have floor wide dance parties, set up a Christmas tree and decorated the lounge, go ice skating, see movies together, eat meals, etc. Oh man, it's the most massive, closest group of people I could have imagined.
One of these new kids is named Monty, and he's a guitarist from Austin, Texas. I never imagined being friends with anyone from Texas, but I ended up in a band with this one. He, my room mate, and I are in a fake emo band together, where we write ridiculous lyrics and then play them really well. We only have a few songs so far, but we held a floor talent show and people were surprised at how much they liked it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=282x8lNWJhQI'm also in a band with the two people I sat next to in Architecture studio last year. They play acoustic guitar and sing silly, gross, sexual songs while I accompany them on my drum machine and look offended and confused. We usually play at a weekly "comedy hour," but we recently had our very own show in the main lounge of the others' residence hall, which was amazing. We had a full hour of material, and I screwed up a lot but the audience seemed to have a great time and applauded and laughed a lot and it made me really happy. In fact, at one point a guitar strap broke and they asked me to entertain the audience while they fixed it. I said "well, the other day we were in the dining hall and we were pretty disappointed in the food, so my friend Monty said 'this place sucks today. This soup is pretty half-assed.' So I said 'yeah... I like my soup with full ass.'" Then at the very end of the show, the singer said "since you've all been such a great audience, we have a half-assed song for you that we've started recently!" It turned out that my TA for one of my classes was in the audience, and he responded "I LIKE MY SONGS WITH FULL ASS!"
Having my TA quote me at my own show was so awesome. I loved it. Unfortunately, that half-assed song came together amazingly and they let me scream in the background all I wanted so it ended up really good, but I don't have a recording of it.
Here are links to two songs with that band:

I pretty much just referred to conversations I had recently and read a story I wrote in 10th grade. I told a few jokes about "how sober I was last night, dude," and a friend from the hall showed her sister, who showed her grandparents. So, when this girl got home for Thanksgiving, her grandparents arrived, said hi, and then said "oh man, I was SO SOBER last night!" I think that's awesome too.
