Went to the
EPCOT Bear & Doll Weekend today. I've meant to go for several years, now, but always forget.
Unfortunately, I missed the big DOA meet-up. They did that yesterday... but you couldn't actually get into the doll & bear thing on Friday unless you paid $200 for the whole weekend package... and I reallyreally wanted to actually see the festival.
It was pretty nifty. ^_^ Very small, but I'd read the website & wasn't expecting large. Loved some of the plushies (all of the ones I really loved were, of course, $200+). Some of the dolls scared the bejeezus out of me. Was mostly looking forward to checking out
Karito Kids &
Goodreau Dolls.
Karito Kids have awfully cute clothes. They're taller (21") & slimmer than American Girl dolls, so I'll be very interested to see how well their fashions will work w/ BJD's.
Dunno how many of you are familiar w/ Goodreau Dolls... there was a bit of a kerfuffle on DOA a little while ago, about these "American BJD's" which were eventually decided to be OT for DOA.
Well, I saw the very 1st 2 dolls of the production line today (OOAK Innuendo & Secret, dressed as Sally & Jack, respectively, from NMBC), & although I can't say that "OMG I SIMPLY MUST HAVE THEM!" I can sincerely say that they look like they have a lot of potential. The faceups on these 2 were "meh" IMO... I think different face-ups & eyes could do a lot for these guys... especially Innuendo. But still... they did at least as much for me as dolls from DoD or tons of other Asian doll companies have.
If nothing else, I think everyone w/ MSD-size dolls should keep their eyes out for Goodreau fashions... they're really making me want an MSD-sized doll. They are Just That Cute.
I got to chat w/ Paulette (half of Goodreau dolls) for a bit. Does it sound insincere to describe someone as "delightful"? She was really cool. ^_^ If anybody is still afraid that Goodreau Dolls are some big American corporation that's looking to cash in on ABJD's, you can be at ease... Paulette's definitely one of us. :D I really hope that their BJD's sell well enough for them to go through w/ some of Paulette's future plans (like strange heads & weapon hands).
I did get one doll from the Goodreau booth: a
Snappy! :D I was intrigued w/ Snappy when I saw her online, & once I saw the big bin o' doll parts IRL (and learned that I could make a doll with outfit for $15), I had to have one. I really want the pink & black witch outfit, but that was a special outfit that costs extra (I & was happy enough that Squeezypet agreed to get me just the basic Snappy). It's really hard to choose doll parts when everything is different colours (even the different coloured heads were different... like, you could get a purple head w/ blue eyes & bright pink lips, or green eyes & pale pink lips, or brown eyes & I forget what colour lips)... I finally went with purple & pink (I wanted green hair, but I guess they were out).
I brought Fox, intending to get some nifty EPCOT pix... but didn't take a single one. I was tired, the boi was thirsty, the lighting was bad, there were weird bean sculptures in my Chinese garden... it just wasn't a good picture-taking day.
I did get a couple of not-great pix of the Goodreau BJD's, & one of my new Snappy (after we got home), which you can see
.
Snappy! Her name isn't actually "Snappy", but she's still settling into herself after the chaotic creation process. I'm sure she'll tell me her name, soon.
Fox seemed to like her at first, then threw her to the ground unexpectedly. I think Fox may be under the impression that Snappy is going to grow up & steal her clothes.
I want to introduce Snappy to the Witches (she's only a little taller than they are, & I think they'll get along famously), but I just realized that I haven't the slightest idea where the Witches are right now. o_O Has it really been over a year since I've seen them? Where the hell did I pack them?
Forgive the craptastic quality of these pix.... I didn't notice the camera was set for "candlelight". ;P
