Another one of the new girls...

The most expensive of my tiny collection of antique Japanese bisques... I payed a "whopping" $35 for her. Interestingly enough, somebody was bidding against me, yet another practically identical doll was on eBay at roughly the same time... and remained unsold w/ a starting bid of $20. Go figure.

I have no idea what this doll is actually worth... I just knew that she needed to live here! ^_^

Her name is Barbastella. She's close to a head taller than Sophie (Stella's head, not Sophie's head... it'd take a much larger doll to be a Sophie-head taller than Soph ;} ), & has similar silver hair. She's also jointed at the hips as well as the shoulders, so it's *really* difficult to get her to stand up w/o a doll stand.

I'm really curious, now: I know that most, if not all, of the Japanese bisques were modeled after French or German dolls... anyone recognize this girl? I'm very curious to see her aristocratic forbears! ^_^

Despite all the talk of Japanese bisques being so much cruder than their French/German inspiration, Stella actually has butt dimples. How cool is that!?

BTW, my childhood self would be absolutely appalled by how enamoured I am of dolls, now. Poor kid.
