Never been much into pop music post-1975, so this is all new to me. It is...better than I expected!

Harvey- you'll be pleased to hear, I just bought two post-punk 45s, for not a little money- Young marble giants "test card EP" and The Homosexuals "hearts in exile". Beautiful stuff, but I am still a 33 year old fogey.

Testcard is a fabulous record. Nothing else like it, at least from that era.

You definately fought the punk wars in vain, as far as I am concerned. I much prefer 10cc to the Clash.

Actually, I really love alot of post-punk stuff, and early electro-pop from 78-83 or so, but I am no expert. I don't collect it, like I do earlier stuff. You can't have it all.

I have Orange juice, Scritti politti, monochrome set, human league- what's next???

10cc? Clash? I love 'em both. Obviously though, there's a whole swathe of early-mid 70s music that is unlistenable tosh (ELP, Yes, most Genesis), and needed to be removed forcibly by whatever means necessary. Hence punk. Having said that, while a lot of Punk sounded great in the late 70s, much of hasn't stood the test of time particularly well. But that was never the point of it; it's raison d'etre was "it was easy, it was cheap, go and do it".

As for post-punk recommendations: this is really uncool, but one band who still sound really fantastic are New Musik. Big 12-string acoustics, charming one-finger synth melodies, robo-pop rhythms and *never* *any* *reverb*. Lyrics about...alienation...mostly, but don't let that put you off. I'd recommend XTC too, but I guess if you were gonna like them you'd know by now. Perhaps you should try that Children Of Nuggets box that's just come out.
Also find Fantastic Something's "If She Doesn't Smile, It'll Rain". A true lost classic, the equal of any record from the 60s.

I love 10cc and The Clash too, both. But, if I HAD to pick between "original soundtrack" and "sandinista"...

I like the cheap & easy idea of punk, but I think that that motto/creed had been around for ages.

I love Prog! But, I also like The Stooges, Suicide and PIL. (see above pic for my prog-pose). Prog is great fun= humourous, very English and eccentric. ELP are shit. Yes are silly, but I still like them. Genesis are wonderful.

O, sure, I like XTC.

Never heard of Fantastic Something or New Musik, but I have now. Thanks.

Yeah, you got me on OST vs Sandinista. However, if I had to pick between "White Riot" & "Dreadlock Holiday"... :-)

I'll email you a Fantastic Something MP3 when I get a moment.

May I suggest the "Alexandria good time" 45 as a fourth user pic, or would that be too show-off-y?

"In Session Tonight" tells me Thomas McGurk "slapped the traps" on this session. That band certainly went through drummers like nobody's business.
