I bought a digital ear thermometer--we need to have two digital thermometers, according to the checklist, and while I'd already acquired one small one (just so we'd have 2), we did want an ear thermometer because, let's face it, sticking something up a screaming baby's bum isn't going to make him scream any less. It was expensive, but wow, was it worth it. I tried it on myself when I got home--got a reading in about 2 seconds, and it's easy to see how you could take the temperature while the baby is sleeping.

We are also looking at blenders, for making baby food. Actually, we're a bit conflicted as to whether to purchase a blender or a food processor. The food processor is more useful, since we can use it to make pastry dough and shred stuff. But making baby food isn't something I quite trust a food processor to do, although that is probably more because Karel's food processor is on its last legs, more than a comment on food processors.

Last things I've picked up: baby bath towels--didn't really know necessary they were, but they seemed like a good idea; comb-and-hairbrush set--the brief echo I had at 34 weeks (because the midwife couldn't feel his head) showed that he's got fuzzy hair, which is handy to know; claw nail-clippers; shampoo and baby oil and baby wash cream. Lots of stuff; here's hoping that he comes out soon to see it all...
