Hum de doo. I'm bored and have nothing better to do so I'm posting some questions I heard and my answers to them.
"If a tree falls in a forest with no one around to hear it, does it make a sound?"
I first heard this one a looong time ago. I know it's a question that's just supposed to make you think, but there actually is a real answer, kind of. The answer is: it depends on your definition of sound. These are some dictionary definitions.
"Vibrations transmitted through an elastic solid or a liquid or gas, with frequencies in the approximate range of 20 to 20,000 hertz, capable of being detected by human organs of hearing."
"Transmitted vibrations of any frequency."
"The sensation stimulated in the organs of hearing by such vibrations in the air or other medium."
So you see, if you choose the first or second definitions the tree does indeed make a sound when it falls, even with no one there to hear it. If you go by the third one then it doesn't make a sound.
Another question: "If a missile that destroys anything it hits, NO MATTER WHAT, is dropped on a fort that can survive ANY attack whatsoever, what would happen?"
This situation can never happen. Both of those things couldn't exist together in reality. If the fort is destroyed then it is just a normal fort and the "indestructible fort" doesn't actually exist. If the fort isn't destroyed then the missile is just a normal missile and the "100% destructive missile" doesn't really exist.
